Strengths & How to Use

High durability and [Spore] are powerful

Amoonguss is the most durable Pokemon that can use [Spore], and it can put the opponent to sleep even if it is sent out after the opponent. It is easy to use because there are many types that Amoonguss can halve the damage, and it has no 4x weakness.

Ability that works well with Pivot Builds

It'd be easy to manage HP by making use of the Ability [Regenerator], which can restore HP after switching out. If you can let an Attacker switching in after putting the opponent to sleep with [Spore], the Attacker can attack while maintaining Amoonguss's high HP.

Things to Keep in Mind

Beware of [Substitute] and [Lum Berry]

Since Amoonguss's strategy relies heavily on [Spore], it may be used as a setup when facing an opponent who won't fall asleep. [Clear Smog] can be a breakthrough when the opponent has stacked Stats boost, but it is weak against Steel type and [Substitute], so be careful.

Beware of Gholdengo

Gholdengo is at the top of the list used against Amoonguss, and it is at a great disadvantage since almost all of Amoonguss's Status moves and moves with the same-type attack bonus are non-effective to Gholdengo. Gholdengo should be the first to be alerted, if you found it on the opponent's selection screen.

Pokemon Team Compositions

PokemonReason
Kingambit IconKingambitAmoonguss is strong against Fighting type which is Kingambit's weakness, and Kingambit is strong against Gholdengo which Amoonguss is hard to deal with.
Skeledirge IconSkeledirgeIt is easy to be used in Pivot Builds and if Amoonguss couldn't block Stats boost moves and Steel type's [Substitute], Skeledirge's ability [Unaware] and sound-based move [Torch Song] can deal with them.

Works well with attackers with high damage per shot

Amoonguss works well with Pivot Builds, and it is easy to make a chance for allies to attack by using [Spore] after the opponent's action before switching out. It has an excellent capability to break the opponent's pivot by combining with attackers with high damage per shot.

Suggested Moves

MoveReason
Stomping TantrumIt can deal a lot of damage to the Gholdengo that switches in after Amoonguss uses [Spore] or [Clear Smog].
SynthesisIt can restore HP, allowing Amoonguss to stay longer in the field. It is recommended when you want Amoonguss to have a role as a Tank as well.
