What Are Shinra Boxes?
Destroy To Get Items
Destroy Shinra Boxes in the game world by pressing □ button to hit it with an attack. They come in different shapes and sizes, usually differing per location. Destroying them often times rewards you with items and goodies that you can use in your fights. Seek them out & try to destroy them when they're around.
Boxes Respawn
The boxes regenerate after sometime and can be used to regenerate your HP and MP again. Destroy them when you're farming or doing a quest in an area to help your progress.
Drops & Contents Are Random
The contents of boxes are random. Even if you destroy the same box at the same location, the contents will be different.

Blue Color Items
Consumable recover items come out from box when you see blue color. Items that come out may depend on progress of game.

Red Color Item
Red color is Mako Shards, items that automatically recharges MP of characters in the team.
Green Color Item
Green color is Moogle Medal, items that you can use to exchange for rare stuff in Chapter 8 by unlocking the Moogle Shop. Try to get as many Moogle Medals as you can as the store itself offers great items in exchange for them.

Red item, Mako Shard is specifically important for Hard Mode where you cannot recharge MP by resting and by using items. In Hard mode, break Shinra Boxes for the purpose of recovering MP of your team.
