The Black Tome in NTE is a boss that appears in the New Herland District area of Heathereau City. Defeating it for the first time allows you to Fast Travel to Black Tome's location directly from the map, allowing for easier repeated runs.
How to Unlock
Black Tome is locked behind The Book of Post-Adolescence Anomaly Commission. If you're having trouble spawning the boss, ensure that you have already completed its related commission.

Defeating the Black Tome Anomaly Hunt allows you to obtain "A Page from Delusion's Shore", an essential material used for character growth and enhancement. Be sure to farm it regularly whenever you need upgrade materials Additionally, your first clear will reward you with the S-rank Arc "Youthful Fantasy".

Black Tome Boss Counters
Chains Disable Your Character
The Black Tome boss is defined by its chain-based attacks. Getting hit by the chains will temporarily immobilize your character, which means dodging is crucial for this boss fight.
Weak Against the Chaos Attribute
The Black Tome is vulnerable to "Chaos." Attacking with characters that can exploit its weakness allows you to efficiently trigger Breaks, giving you an advantage in combat. Prioritize forming your team around this weakness.
Best Team Composition for Black Tome
We recommend a team centered around Daffodill to exploit the "Chaos" weakness. Additionally, including Psyche and Incantation characters to trigger "Nova" and "Discord" is a great strategy.
Discord Team
This team composition takes advantage of Daffodill's Discord. It has a high skill ceiling and requires several preparations during combat, but when executed well, it can unleash tremendous damage.
Black Tome Boss Fight Tips
Read Attacks and Focus on Dodging
The Black Tome has many attacks that deal continuous damage, such as firing beams or sweeping attacks. However, the enemy's attacks are telegraphed by a red indicator, so read the boss' movements carefully and time your Critical Dodge to counterattack.
Parry Specials for Knockdowns
When a contracting red circle appears, this indicates an incoming special move. While the red circle is contracting, landing certain attacks such as Basic Attacks or skills will trigger a "Parry Attack", which blocks the attack and stuns the boss.
New Binding Attacks Below 50% HP
When Black Tome'sHP drops to around 50%, its attack patterns change, and it starts using chain-based attacks and dropping large doors. Getting hit by these chains or doors will bind your character, so it is important to carefully watch for attacks and Dodge.
More Attacks in High-Risk Commission
In High-Risk Commissions, the Black Tome uses many of the same core attack patterns, but the number of consecutive attacks increases as the difficulty rises. It also uses binding attacks much earlier, gains new wide-area attacks, and chains its moves together more frequently, so stay alert throughout the fight.
Black Tome Phase 1 Battle
Linear Laser Attack
This is a linear beam attack fired from the boss' floating book. This only hits once and the attack is easy to read, so actively attempt Critical Dodges and counterattacks.
Multi-Hit Laser Attack
This is a singular beam that hits multiple times. Unlike the previous laser attack, the wind-up time is longer and there is hit detection while the beam lasts, so don't counter immediately after getting hit and instead focus on dodging first.
Spiral Projectile Attack
After a brief indication, spiralling projectiles are launched from the book. The animation is short and the hit detection comes quickly, so Dodge as soon as you see the indicator.
Double Sweeping Attack
Chains extend from the boss' arms before it executes consecutive sweeping attacks. Even if you get hit by the first sweep, you can still Critical Dodge the second sweep, so don't panic — wait for the right moment and counterattack with a Critical Dodge.
Double Forward Kicks
The boss launches two consecutive forward sweeping kicks. Landing Basic Attacks or skills while the red circle is contracting will trigger a Parry Attack, stunning the boss and creating an opening, so actively aim to punish this attack when you see the indicator.
Critical Dodge Counterattack Pattern
Even if you can't land the Parry Attack, the sweeping attack has a clearly readable animation with enough time to Dodge, making it easy to counter with a Critical Dodge.
Lunging 3-Hit Combo
The boss teleports behind you and initiates a 3-hit combo: Lunge → Sweep → Sweeping Explosion. The lunge is hard to avoid, but the following attacks are easier to evade, so even if you take the first hit, stay calm and Dodge the next attacks.
Overhead Attack
A book appears above the boss and fires crystals towards the player's location. Once the book appears above the boss, moving towards the boss allows you to keep attacking without taking damage.
Black Tome Phase 2 Battle
Chain Binding Attack
Activates when the boss's HP is around 50%. Purple indicators randomly appear on the ground before chains erupt from their centers. Getting hit by these chains will prevent you from moving, so keep an eye on the circles and move accordingly.
Giant Door Binding
A giant door appears above the character before violently dropping downwards. The door falls quickly, and depending on the camera angle, it can be hard to notice, so focus on Dodging as soon as the door appears.
Black Tome New Attacks (Difficulty III+)
Beam Blas
This attack fires an irradiation beam similar to its multi-hit beam attack, causing explosions wherever it lands. While it only tracks your character slightly, its erratic movement can easily catch you in the follow-up explosions, so stay alert.
Exploding Heel Drop
This attack has the boss leap into the air before slamming down with a heel drop that triggers an explosion. It comes out very quickly with almost no warning, but even if the heel drop hits you, you can still avoid the explosion, so don't panic and react accordingly.
