What is an Esper Cycle?
Provides Additional Effects
In NTE combat, an "Esper Cycle" is a powerful additional effect that activates when characters are swapped via entry attack. The effect that activates differs depending on the Esper Ability combination of the two swapped characters.
How to Activate Esper Cycles

When you deal damage to an enemy and their Cycle Rate is maxed out, a special effect will appear on the character's icon. The Esper Cycle corresponding to the characters' Esper Attribute will activate when an attack hits an enemy upon swapping to the character.
Occurs With Adjacent Esper Types

Esper Cycles will only activate when "adjacent Esper Attributes" are combined. There are 6 Esper Attributes in total. It will not activate if you swap to a character with a distant Esper Attribute, such as one on the opposite side of the circle, so keep this in mind when building your team.
| Esper Ability | Adjacent Esper Abilities |
|---|---|
| Cosmos | Lakshana / Anima |
| Anima | Cosmos / Incantation |
| Incantation | Anima / Chaos |
| Chaos | Incantation / Psyche |
| Psyche | Chaos / Lakshana |
| Lakshana | Psyche / Cosmos |
Esper Cycle Effects
Increases Attribute Damage

Among the Esper Cycle effects, there are also buffs and debuffs that strengthen specific Esper Attributes, such as those that "increase the Esper Attribute damage taken by the enemy." Increase your damage output by using characters that are well-suited for the activated effect.
Cycle Enhancement

Characters have their own Cycle Enhancement. The enhancement effects vary, but one option is to prioritize characters in your formation whose enhancements you find appealing among the Esper Attributes you're using.
Unlocked at Ascension Level 2

To unlock Cycle Enhancement, you must first reach character Ascension level 2, then unlock the second Support Skill to unlock the ability. Ascension levels can be raised according to your Appraiser level.
Basic Esper Cycles (6 Types Total)
6 Effects in Total
This is a list of the 6 basic Esper Cycle effects that are activated by pairs of adjacent Esper Attributes. By building a party with similar Esper Attributes and rotating entry attacks, you can apply unique buffs and deal damage to gain an advantage in battle.
Esper Cycle: Blossom
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Cosmos x Anima | When the Esper Cycle activates, it generates 1 Vita Bud near the target, which blooms into 5 Vita Pistils. Every 2 seconds, the Vita Pistils will fly towards a target within range and explode, dealing AoE damage. Up to 3 Vita Buds can exist on the field. |
An attack is generated from the Vita Bud every 2 seconds. The resulting attack has a long range and homes in on targets, making it very user-friendly.
Esper Cycle: Hexed
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Anima x Incantation | After the Esper Cycle activates, for 12 seconds, whenever the target takes Anima or Incantation Esper Ability damage, it takes additional damage equal to 20% of that damage. |
For 12 seconds after Hexed is applied, additional damage will be added to Anima and Incantation Esper Attribute damage. It's a good idea to pair this with characters who have a fast attack speed.
Esper Cycle: Scorch
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Incantation x Chaos | After the Esper Cycle activates, inflict Scorch on the target for 15 seconds. The target will take continuous damage. |
This is an Esper Cycle similar to burn or poison effects in other games, causing a small amount of damage every second.
Esper Cycle: Nova
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Chaos x Psyche | After the Esper Cycle activates, it inflicts Nova on the target for 5 seconds. When the effect ends, it deals a large amount of Mental Damage to the target. |
A large amount of damage is dealt 5 seconds after Nova is applied. While waiting for the damage to trigger, it's easy to identify the afflicted enemy as they will have a blue effect on them.
Esper Cycle: Stain
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Psyche x Lakshana | After the Esper Cycle activates, Psyche and Lakshana Esper Ability damage taken by the target is increased by 20% for 12 seconds. |
While the Stain effect is active, Psyche and Lakshana Esper Ability damage is increased. Use an attacker with a matching Esper Ability to rack up damage. While active, the enemy will have a blue lightning-like effect.
Esper Cycle: Remora
| Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
| Lakshana x Cosmos | Inflicts the Remora status on the target. |
Remora is a status that slows all enemy actions for 5 seconds. It's powerful, but be aware of its drawbacks, such as messing up your Dodge timing.
Composite Esper Cycles (2 Types Total)
Two Esper Cycles Combined
When specific Esper Cycles are applied simultaneously, an even more powerful composite effect will activate. You can intentionally trigger this by building your team with the three Esper Abilities from either the top half (Cosmos, Anima, Lakshana) or the bottom half (Chaos, Psyche, Incantation) of The Circle.
Composite Esper Cycle: Charge
| Activation Condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Blossom + Remora | When a Vita Bud hits a target in the Remora state, the controlled character recovers an additional 10 Ultimate Energy. |
Each time a Vita Pistil hits, it restores the Ultimate Energy needed for an Ultimate. This is an Esper Cycle you'll want to prioritize for characters with powerful Ultimates.
Composite Esper Cycle: Discord
| Activation Condition | Effect |
|---|---|
| Nova + Scorch | When a target is simultaneously afflicted with Nova and Scorch, a certain percentage of the target's Break gauge is depleted. |
This is a simple effect that significantly depletes the Break gauge. Considering that the damage dealt during the Break state is also increased, this is a powerful effect.
