What is the Break Gauge?

Gauge Displayed Under Enemy's HP Bar

The Break Gauge is the white gauge displayed below the enemy's red HP bar. Landing attacks will deplete it, making it an essential element in combat.

Incapacitates Boss When Fully Depleted

Once the Break Gauge reaches 0, the enemy becomes incapacitated, unable to move or attack for a short period. This leaves the enemy vulnerable, allowing you to deal a large amount of damage.

In addition to being incapacitated, enemies in a Break state also receive Break Damage. The amount of damage is based on your team's overall stats, so it's important to strengthen all your characters.

How to Deplete the Break Gauge

Land Attacks

Landing attacks is a consistent way to reduce an enemy's Break Gauge. Once fully depleted, the enemy will become immobilized and will receive Break Damage.

Use Weakness-Aligned Support Skills

Use Weakness-Aligned Support Skills

Some enemies have specific weaknesses. Attacking them with a Support Skill that matches their weakness will deplete more of the Break Gauge. An enemy's weakness is indicated by an icon above their head.

Use Critical Riposte

A Critical Riposte is a counter move that activates when you use a Basic Attack immediately after a successful Critical Dodge. Landing it deals significant damage to the Break Gauge. Try to dodge and counter enemy attacks as much as possible.

Parry Attacks

When a red circular warning appears on an enemy, it indicates a parryable attack. Parrying is a powerful move that staggers an enemy and can also trigger a Critical Dodge.

Significant Damage with Esper Cycle Discord

Applying both Nova (Chaos x Psyche) and Scorch (Incantation x Chaos) to an enemy simultaneously will create Discord. Discord deals significant damage to an enemy's Break Gauge, but it requires this specific combination of elements.
