How To Use Voice Chat

Requires Trainer Level 6 To Unlock

Trainer Level 6

In order to use the voice chat, you must first reach Trainer Level 6. Once you reach Trainer Level 6, you'll be free to use voice chat for any type of matches in Pokemon Unite!

How To Enable Voice Chat In Pokemon Unite

From The Home Screen

0Plug in a compatible headset to the Nintendo Switch (Switch only)
1Run Pokemon Unite
2While in the home screen, press ZL or tap to open the menu
3Scroll down and select "Settings"
4Go to "Audio"
5Scroll down to "Voice"
6Turn "Voice" to "On" and adjust the Voice Volume to your liking

How To Access Voice Settings In-Game

1While in a match press "+" or tap on settings
2Press "-" or tap while on the scoreboard
3Scroll down to access settings for "Audio" & "Voice Chat Settings"

*Note that the instructions are for both the Switch & Mobile Versions.

On By Default

On by default

Pokemon Unite's in-game voice chat is turned on by default. This means that by simply plugging in a headset with a mic, you can immediately chat with your teammates in a match. Make sure to check this setting if you want to mute yourself when playing.

Ranked Matches

Voice Chat is an invaluable tool when it comes to ranked matches. Notifying your teammates and getting them to join you during attacks and ambushes can help you get the win needed to advance.

Aside from your audio output's built-in controls, you can use the settings to adjust the volume of the voices from your teammates. You can also tweak the volume setting even while in-game.

The Nintendo Switch received a huge update and people can now connect their Bluetooth devices. With this, they'll be able to communicate with each other & plan a strategy to win. Take note that you can only speak during matches and you won't be able to talk with your team in the lobby.

Same Goes For The Mobile Version

The mobile version also has the voice chat function as well. It also has the same feature as the Switch version. You can only talk to your team during a match.

Customize Your Chat With Language Options

You can also customize your chat and user interface with the Language Settings in the Menu.

In-game, your are only limited to several chat lines accessible via a chat wheel. You can access them by pressing the "↑" during a match. In the menu, use your right joystick to pick a chat line.

Players Can Customize The Chat Wheel NEW! (1/20)

During the January 20th update, players can now choose which chat they want to add on the Chat Wheel. This is customizable by accessing the Menu → Settings → Quick Chat Settings and select which chat you want to add to your in-game chat list.

How To Chat With Friends

Play 5 matches first

In the main screen, press "-" to bring up your list of friends. Select the friend that you want to chat with to start. Note that for you to be able to initiate a chat, you must play at least 5 matches together.

In order to chat with friends, you need to add them first to your list. You can do this by either adding them via the Trainer ID, after a game, or from your Nintendo Account.

Other Recommended Voice Chat Apps

Discord (Free)

Discord

Discord is a popular voice and text chat platform. It is very easy to use, has great features, and is completely free. Although it is not compatible with the Nintendo Switch itself, you can use either a PC or a smartphone to run it.

Using Discord On A Browser

If you don't want to have Discord installed on either your PC or smartphone, you can instead make use of a browser to make a Discord room. Simply go to Discord's homepage and select the browser option to set up or join a room with your friends.

Discord Mobile App

For smartphone users, you can simply download the app and have it run in the background. The Discord mobile app uses your phone's mic so there is no need to attach a headset for inputs.

Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online App

Nintendo also has its own proprietary software for voice chat. However, this app must be installed on your mobile device for it to function. It also requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to use. The Nintendo Switch Online voice chat app is available on both iOS and Android.
