Giga Drain Enemies

This move has a leech effect where you can drain HP from your enemy to heal Venusaur while also dealing damage in the process. Incoming attacks will also deal less damage to Venusaur for a limited time. Quite useful in close combat situations where you can outlive your enemies.

Petal Dance Your Way

This move is perfect for chasing down targets since you can increase Venusaur's movement speed with Petal Dance. Unlucky targets caught within its whirlwind of petals gets inflicted with overtime damage.

Held Items To Improve Performance

Equip Venusaur with Muscle Band to increase its basic attack overall performance and amplify its damage by at least 1% of the opposing Pokemon's remaining HP. Focus Band increases your Defense stats and provide you with HP recovery for 3 seconds. Buddy Barrier will shield Venusaur and its allies 20% of their max HP whenever it uses its Unite Move.

Battle Item For Mobility

Eject Button will make it easier for Venusaur to change its position quickly in battle especially when dodging attacks or fleeing from unfavorable situations.

Sludge Bomb Targets

Venusaur can hurl Sludge Bombs to gathering crowds to deal damage to multiple Pokemon. This leaves them poisoned and decreases their movement speed while their Sp. Defense gets lowered as well, making them prone to deal more damage.

Snipe Enemies With Solar Beam

With its range and concentrated damage, Solar Beam is a great move to use on distant targets. With a little practice on aiming and timing, you can steal the last hits from team objectives. You can try this tactic when struggling for team objectives especially concerning Zapdos.

Held Items For Maximum Performance

As a Special Attacker, Venusaur's performance will be enhanced greatly with Held Items like Wise Glasses which increases your Sp. Atk by 3%. Paired with Choice Specs, you'll be able to increase the damage of Venusaur's moves by a minimum of 40 when they hit. Buddy Barrier's shield is useful during team battles as it provides a protection equivalent to 20% of their max HP.

Battle Item To Increase Attack

X Attack raises your Pokemon's Atk & Sp. Atk for a limited time thus you'll be able to produce the maximum damage Venusaur can deal to its unfortunate targets. Activate this before using Solar Beam to Sure Hit targets.

Take Advantage Of Giga Drain's Life Steal

The best way to outlive your enemy during close combat and on 1v1 situations is to use Giga Drain to drain their HP pool. The more HP you can leech than your enemy can heal will make it easier for you to knock them out. It also reduces the damage Venusaur gets from its target so there's a high chance you'll be able to outlive them.

Use Solar Beam's Range

With Solar Beam, you'll be able to hit targets from a distance. Watch out for stunned or slowed targets as they are easier to hit and knock out with this move. You can knock out even fleeing opponents for good.

Held Items To Enhance Performance

Aside from the Defense stats you get with Focus Band, you can also recover a portion of the HP Venusaur lost in battle. Paired this with Buddy Barrier to further increase your endurance in team fights with the additional HP while getting a protective shield for Venusaur and its nearby allies. This shield is equal to 20% of you and your allies max HP so you'll be able to stave off damage. Sp. Atk Specs will add a minimum of 8 to your Sp. Atk every time you score.

Dash In With This Battle Item

The Eject Button will allow Venusaur to quickly change its position in battle. Its pretty handy when it comes to dodging attacks or fleeing from unfavorable situations.

Sludge Bomb Away!

Venusaur has the power to launch Sludge Bombs at assembling groups, dealing damage to multiple opponents at once. This poisons them and reduces their movement speed, as well as their Sp. Defense, leaving them more vulnerable to damage.

Chase Enemies With Petal Dance!

Because Venusaur's movement speed can be increased by Petal Dance, this move is ideal for pursuing down targets. Unlucky prey caught in its tornado of petals suffer damage over time and most effective when dealing AoE damage to several Pokemon in the Battle Arena.

Held Items To Increase Attack

Venusaur's ability as a Special Attacker will be considerably increased by Held Items such as Wise Glasses, which enhances your Sp. Atk by 3%. When combined with Choice Specs, you'll be able to enhance the damage of Venusaur's moves by at least 40 when they hit. Buddy Barrier's shield is beneficial during team engagements since it gives protection equal to 20% of their maximum HP so your team may be able to withstand the opposing team.

Battle Item For More Firepower

For a brief period, X Attack increases your Pokemon's Atk and Sp. Atk, allowing you to deal the maximum damage Venusaur can deliver to its unlucky victim. Use this before activating your moves so you'll deal more damage.

Solar Beam Thief (Bolikio) Build

Author's Notes
- There's nothing very special, but with good support from Alolan Ninetales, you can give a lot of damage to the opposing team.
- This build is also good for defeating Rotom and Zapdos, and with X Speed, you can run away in tight situations if you're low on health.

Venusaur - Basics & Advanced Tips

Venusaur Basic Mechanics

This section has basic tips and tricks that you must know to effectively control Venusaur. Treat this as a supplement to the Beginner's Guide.

Basics
Concentrate on farming
Venusaur relies heavily on Wild Pokemon EXP. Having a good run during the first few minutes of the match can give you the competitive edge down the line.
▶ How To Level Up Fast
Stay behind tankier Pokemon
Since Venusaur attacks from long range during the early stage or when using Sludge Bomb / Solarbeam combo, it is recommended to stick with Pokemon with a higher endurance or which have the ability to restore HP.
▶ Venusaur Best Allies
Watch your HP
Venusaur can be somewhat frail - one answer to this is to run a Giga Drain build to supplement your health recovery. If you're not running this, however, you'll want to play more carefully and stay back.
▶ HP Recovery Guide

Venusaur Advanced Mechanics

This section is for those looking to up their play with Venusaur. Treat this as a supplement to the Advanced Players Guide.

Advanced
Master using Solarbeam
Venusaur's Solarbeam move can deal high damage when used properly. This skill shot can be somewhat hard to hit, so make sure to fiddle around with your settings to ensure that you have the smoothest aiming experience possible!
Best Settings Guide
Sludge Bomb & Solarbeam Combo
・Venusaur's Sludge Bomb can decrease opponents' speed while dealing poison damage. The user can use Solarbeam effectively when the opponents are slowed down with Sludge Bomb.
・If your team has been KO'd, it can be okay to hang back and wait to snipe Drednaw or Zapdos with Solar Beam!
Giga Drain & Petal Dance Combo
・Venusaur's Petal Dance can also decrease the cooldown of Giga Drain, while dealing damage to opponents in the area of effect.
・Feel free to aggressively invade the enemy Jungle, steal their last hits and then run out!

Venusaur Strategy Guide

Venusaur Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths
Powerful enhanced basic attack which is able to also pull enemies slightly. You can also use this to kite or hit enemies who are fleeing.
Petal Dance provides excellent mobility. It also prevents people from scoring, slows them down, and lowers Sp. Def.
When Venusaur's health is low, its passive offers a significant damage increase. If you utilize Solar Beam at this moment, you will be able to maximize its damage potential.
Offers great crowd-control capabilities in pulling enemies together with its special basic attack and large AoE skills that slow or weaken defenses of those within the vicinity.
Weaknesses
Can be burst down easily if focused from afar.
Not effective against Pokemon with mobility like Cinderace unless you lock them down.
Can be countered by Pokemon who are capable of closing distances very quickly and/or dealing high burst damage like Absol or Zeraora.
Venusaur has low endurance and may need to retreat frequently.

Recommended Lanes

The number of ★ shows the level on a particular route area.

LaneRoute Details
TopTop Recommendation level: ★★★
As an Attacker, Venusaur's main job is to actively secure scores at enemy goals or push back enemies trying to score at your goals
MiddleMiddleRecommendation level: ★ ・ ・
Venusaur can farm spawns here to level up quickly. However, you shouldn't overextend jungling when you can make better use of your damage-dealing abilities fighting in lanes.
BottomBottomRecommendation level: ★★ ・
You can function fine in either top or bottom, but in general you'll tend to go top in most games to actively push lanes.
Lane Guide - Which Lane Should You Go To?

Bulbasaur (Lv 1~) Strategy

Bulbasaur (Lv 1~) Strategy

Choose Seed Bomb First

Since Seed Bomb and Razor Leaf almost have the same effect, it's better to choose Seed Bomb first just because of its shorter cooldown. Note that since both moves are ranged, it's better engage enemies from a distance.

Aim For Final Evolution Before The 5 Minute Mark

Aim to fully evolve Bulbasaur to Venusaur before the 5-minute mark of the match. You need to have your full build towards the endgame as being underleveled puts you at a huge disadvantage at this point. Venusaur is weak during the early game, so try to prioritize Exp.

How To Level Up Fast - EXP Farming

Ivysaur (Lv 5~) Strategy

Ivysaur (Lv 5~) Strategy

Choose Sludge Bomb For A DPS Build

Sludge Bomb both damages enemies and gives them multiple debuffs, including a movement speed decrease and Sp. Def down. This will work particularly well if your partner also uses Special Attack!

Choose Giga Drain For A Tankier Build

Giga Drain not only damages enemies, but also restores Venusaur's HP, while reducing damage taken for a short time. This build variant can make you the tankiest attacker Pokemon out there, though you will be sacrificing damage and range.

If You Choose Sludge Bomb
Lv 7: Solar BeamSolar BeamArea
A highly damaging move that's a good follow up to Sludge Bomb
If You Choose Giga Drain
Lv 7: Petal DancePetal DanceArea
A move that deals damage to opposing Pokemon in the area & also increases your speed

Venusaur (Lv 7~) Strategy

Sludge Bomb + Solar Beam

Recommended Combo
Sludge BombSolar Beam

When starting a team fight, open up with Sludge Bomb. This is best when aiming for Pokemon that have grouped up in goals. Once the Sp. Def debuff is active, use Solar Beam to deal massive damage. This is your bread-and-butter rotation!

Petal Dance + Giga Drain

Recommended Combo
Petal DanceGiga Drain

Start with Normal Attacks first - let your opponents deal damage onto you for a while to take advantage of Venusaur's passive skill that increases attack damage at lower health levels. At 50% health, use Petal Dance, then quickly follow up with Giga Drain. This combo will deal powerful hits to the opposing Pokemon in the area, increase your movement speed, and also and restore your health. However, if you're even slightly outnumbered you run the risk of being KO'd very easily, so be careful.

Solar Beam + Giga Drain

Recommended Combo
Solar BeamGiga Drain

Snipe down targets from a distance with Solar Beam and barrage them with normal attacks. Make sure to time and position yourself in battle when doing so to hit them. When your enemies try to get closer, use Giga Drain to further pressure their HP pool. Use Solar Beam again or Venusaur's ult to finish them off.

Sludge Bomb + Petal Dance

Recommended Combo
Sludge BombPetal Dance

Sludge Bomb is a great crowd control move for gathering Pokemon in the lane during team fights. Use this to poison your enemies and slow them down. Follow this up with Petal Dance to increase your movement speed in case they flee as you deal continuous damage on them that increases over time, and ultimately finish them off.

Verdant Anger (Unite Move) Usage

Venusaur's Unite Move deals large damage in an AoE and then spawns seeds that expand out in 4 directions dealing additional damage. This is a very powerful and fast Unite Move that you'll want to use in tight AoE environments. Zapdos is perfect for this, so make sure you save your Ult for the last 2 minutes of the match!

Venusaur - Timing Specific Guide

What To Do At Every Stage Of The Game

This section will guide you on which specific Wild Pokemon to target in order, as well as what to do at various stages of the game. This guide is based on our Sludge Bomb/Razor Leaf build, but most of it still applies to the Giga Drain/Petal Dance build as well!

10:00~9:40

Target Level3
Tasks① Learn Razor Leaf as your first skill
② KO the first Aipom
③ KO the next Aipom
④ KO the 3rd and 4th line of Aipoms
⑤ Head towards the middle.

Before heading to battle we recommend choosing Razor Leaf as your first skill and save it for the 3rd & 4th Aipom as this can allow you to quickly attack both at once. Don't use Razor Leaf on the 2nd Aipom, that way you have it available for the 3rd and 4th ones!

9:40~7:00

Target Level5
Tasks① KO the Corphish in the top-bottom.
② KO the upper left and lower left Aipoms.
③ KO the Corphish in the upper-left side of your goal zone.
④ Clear the Combees and Vespiquens in the middle.
⑤ KO the newly spawned Corphish in the top-bottom.
⑥ KO the newly spawned upper left and lower left Aipoms.
⑦ KO the newly spawned Corphish in the upper-left side of your goal zone.
⑧ Go to the middle of the central area and KO the 4 Corphish.

When fighting a Wild Pokemon, always aim for the last hit with the Razor Leaf. Though, Venusaur's fighting ability is low in the early stages we suggest that if an opponent approaches you move back to the goal zone to recover HP while fighting.

7:00~ Until Defeating Drednaw's 1st Appearance

Target Level7
Tasks • Use Sludge Bomb to deal damage to opponents which can also leave a poison effect.
• Aim for the opponent and deal with the last hit with Solar Beam from a distance.

In group fights, Venusaur's Solar Beam has an extremely long range which can be used to aim for opponents or deal with the last hit from a distance while Sludge Bomb is good for targeting groups of opponents which can cause damage and apply a poison effect.

Drednaw Guide - Spawn Time & Location

After Defeating 1st Drednaw~Zapdos Fight

Target Level9~
Tasks• Use Sludge Bomb to deal damage to opponents which can also leave a poison effect.
• Aim for the opponent and deal with the last hit with Solar Beam from a distance.
• Venusaur's unite move deal more damage to opponents and also reduces their movement speed.

Venusaur's Unite move can deal quite a bit of damage, and also reduces the opponent's movement speed. This works very well with Sludge Bomb, as both moves deal excellent damage to targets that are stacked up together. Use this to your advantage when fighting against Zapdos.
