Ruan Yi Boss Strategy and Tips
A Boss Split into Two Phases
- Deplete HP in the first phase
- Interrupt attacks and collect all green orbs when they appear - Depleting HP triggers the second phase
- An invincibility barrier is deployed & green orbs appear
- Collect the green orbs to break the barrier
Ruan Yi is a boss split into a first phase in a normal state and a second phase after entering an Enraged state.
Once its initial HP is depleted, the boss recovers to half HP and enters the second phase while deploying gimmicks, so you must defeat it again after breaking the gimmick.
Collect All Xiranite Energy Orbs

During combat, the boss may deploy a barrier that makes it invincible. Since attacks won't connect, breaking the barrier is mandatory, stop attacking and collect the Xiranite Energy (green orbs) around the area to disable it.
Appears Around 2 Minutes After Starting
In the first phase, about 2 minutes after the battle begins, the boss deploys an invincibility barrier, and green orbs appear. Ignore the boss temporarily and focus on collecting the green orbs. Be careful to avoid incoming attacks while doing so.
Signals the Start of the Second Phase
When HP is depleted for the first time, the boss recovers to half HP and deploys an invincibility barrier. Collecting all green orbs on the field will trigger a Stagger, allowing your attacks to connect again.
Avoid the Wrothful Roots of Bane

At the start of the second phase, Wrothful Roots of Bane (red orbs) appear alongside the green ones. Getting close will trigger an explosion that deals Massive DMG, so collect the green orbs carefully while avoiding the red ones.
Prepare and Level Up If Struggling
The boss uses wide-area attacks with short animations, making it difficult to dodge consistently. Strengthen your team and bring enough recovery items to avoid being overwhelmed.
Aim for Level 80 for Story Progression
The story version of Ruan Yi is Lv65, so it’s recommended to raise your characters to Lv80. Also upgrade your weapons, craft gold-tier Gear, and prepare recovery items before challenging him.
Ruan Yi Notable Attack Patterns
Tackle
If you are attacking at close range, the boss may suddenly perform a tackle with almost no wind-up, making it very dangerous. If you're struggling to maintain HP, consider switching to a ranged character or an Arts unit to attack safely from a distance.
Shockwave Attack
The boss flies around and generates water shockwaves across the ground. While you can jump to avoid them, the 5th wave overlaps and is harder to dodge, so it's best to use a dodge to avoid multiple shockwaves at once.
Red Orb Deployment
This is a powerful move triggered when the boss's HP is depleted. It recovers half of its HP and deploys both red and green orbs.
Avoid the red orbs while collecting the green ones to break the gimmick and trigger a Stagger. Keep in mind the boss will continue attacking, so stay alert to avoid getting hit from unexpected angles.
