Umbral Monument: Ballista and Axe - Agony Mode Guide for Arknights: Endfield. It covers the best teams, how to defeat, key strategy, tips, recommended characters, and rewards.
Ballista and Axe (Agony Mode) Best Teams
Laevatain Team Composition
| Attacker | Heat Infliction | Recover SP | HP Support |
Laevatain | Wulfgard | Akekuri | Ardelia |
This is a Heat team with Laevatain set as the main attacker. Since only two bosses, and no adds (minions) appear on this stage, players should challenge it with a team that specializes against single targets.
Tips! | The stage is divided into three phases, and in the final phase, you will fight two bosses at the same time. |
|---|
Alternative Characters
Antal | - Can replace Akekuri - Apply both Susceptibility and Amp for more damage - An option for aggressive playstyles |
Strategy and Tips for Ballista and Axe
A Stage with Three Phases
In Ballista and Axe, you will fight a Bonekrusher Executioner in the first phase and a Bonekrusher Ballista in the second phase. During the third phase, you will fight both of them simultaneously. At the beginning of each phase, they will enter while attacking your active character, so prepare to dodge the initial attack.
Tips! | In the first and second phases, the boss you are not fighting will interfere with ranged attacks. These attacks are powerful, so be wary once you see red circles appear. |
|---|
Bosses Share HP in the Third Phase

In Agony mode, the bosses in the third phase share the damage they receive, so be aware that you cannot focus down one boss to make it a 1v1 fight.
Save SP for Interrupts
The two bosses in Ballista and Axe frequently use major attacks indicated by a circle. If you use spend your SP on combos, you won't be able to interrupt their dangerous attacks. Save your SP with the intent of using it in response to major attacks.
Tips! | If you include characters who can recover SP, like Akekuri or Pogranichnik, it becomes easier to save SP for when you need it. |
|---|
Don't Waste Stamina

Considering the attacks from off-stage, the duo assault from the bosses is quite fierce, and you might run out of stamina for dodging. Instead of spamming dodges, clearing the stage is easier if you use dodge primarily to avoid enemy attacks.
Best Characters for Ballista and Axe
Powerful Healers
| Character | Role and Key Advantages |
Ardelia | [Role]:HP Recovery + Debuff [Key Advantages] - Heals with her Ultimate and Battle Skill - Increases outgoing damage with Susceptibility |
Ember | [Role]:HP Recovery + Shield [Key Advantages] - Combo Skill heals HP when hit - Grants Shields to the entire team with her Ultimate |
Snowshine | [Role]:HP Recovery + Cryo Infliction [Key Advantages] - Combo Skill heals when HP is low - Inflicts Cryo with her Battle Skill |
Since you can't bring healing items in Agony Mode, we highly recommend using characters who can restore a lot of HP, like Ardelia or Ember. Essentially, make sure to include defensive characters that compliment the rest of your squad members.
Tips! | Gilberta and Antal also have HP recovery effects, but the amount they heal is small, so it's safer to use the healers mentioned above. |
|---|
SP Recovery Characters
| Character | Role/Key Advantages |
Akekuri | [Role]:Recover SP + Damage Buff [Key Advantages] - Recovers SP with her Combo Skill and Ultimate - Increases outgoing damage with Link |
Pogranichnik | [Role]:Recover SP + Breach [Key Advantages] - Recovers SP with his Battle Skill, Combo Skill, and Ultimate - Increases team's Phys. damage with Breach |
Alesh | [Role]:Recover SP + Cryo Infliction [Key Advantages] - Recovers SP with his Battle Skill, Combo Skill, and Ultimate - Inflicts Cryo with his Ultimate |
The bosses use numerous interruptible attacks, so having a character that can recover SP makes it easier to cancel these attacks with Battle Skills. This also makes it easier to chain combos involving Battle Skills, which leads to an increase in total damage output.
Single-Target Attackers
| Character | Role/Key Advantages |
Laevatain | [Role]:Main Attacker [Key Advantages] - A high-damage, wide-range attacker - High damage against single targets - Easy to damage both enemies at the same time |
Last Rite | [Role]:Main Attacker [Key Advantages] - Attacker with a high-damage Combo Skill and Ultimate - Deals burst damage with her Ultimate during a Stagger |
Lifeng | [Role]:Main Attacker [Key Advantages] - Attacker whose Ultimate is strong when he has a Link - Deals high damage even to single targets with Physical Susceptibility |
Since no adds appear in Ballista and Axe, attackers who can deal high damage to single targets are very effective. Laevatain, in particular, can reach a wide area and has good synergy as she can deal Massive DMG to both bosses at once in the third phase.
