Quagsire Strengths

Quagsire's ability Unaware allows it to ignore any stat changes of the opposing Pokemon. Even if they buff up their Attack or Defense, it is effectively useless against Quagsire. For this reason, it is extremely powerful against Mimikyu & Curse spammers.

A Sticky Threat

Quagsire can be hard to get rid of - with Recover, Leftovers and its ability to ignore an opponent's stat increases, facing off against one can be quite troublesome. It can also cause burns with Scald and inflict poison with Toxic, making it an unappealing target to fight for many attackers. When playing with Quagsire, use Protect and Max Guard to buy time.

Great Complement To Toxapex

Quagsire's ground typing gives it an immunity to Electric types, which can be excellent when combined with other water types like Toxapex. Additionally, given how popular Heat and Wash Rotom are in the meta, Quagsire is seeing a lot of use recently. Although Gastrodon can fulfill the same function, Quagsire's access to Toxic might make it slightly more desirable.

Use Stockpile To Supplement Your Defenses

Quagsire's overall base stats are quite low, so it might be worthwhile to swap out one move for Stockpile and raise its Defense and Sp. Def stat.

How To Play Against Quagsire

Determine Its Build By Looking At Its Party

Quagsire is currently seen using both Unaware and Water Absorb at a relatively even ratio. Bringing Grass Pokemon is a must, but in addition to that you'll need to predict Quagsire's build. If you see a Toxapex (or other tanky Pokemon) on the team, the chances that it's Water Absorb are high.

Knock Off Its Leftovers

The move Knock Off is particularly great for dealing with Quagsire, as it tends to prefer protracted battles where it can get maximum benefit from Leftovers. Rillaboom and Ferrothorn can both use Knock Off, in addition to having super effective grass-type moves. They come highly recommended.

Mold Breaker Trumps Unaware

The ability Mold Breaker allows you to buff your own stats without the change being ignored by Unaware Quagsires. Excadrill is a good example here, as it's immune to Toxic and can Swords Dance.
