Toxapex Strengths

Toxapex is a classic defensive wall that can frustrate opponents with Regenerator & Recover. Instead of Baneful Bunker, Toxic could also be a very good choice. The move Haze removes all stat changes, so it can be really good at canceling out an opponent's set up (such as Mimikyu).

Go For A Burn With Scald

Toxapex's access to the move Scald allows it to possibly burn its target. This is a good way to shut down an offensive threat, as it will reduce their attack by half.

Recover, Scald, and Haze Are A Must

We strongly recommend running the above mentioned 3 moves, as they are the most advantageous in most situations. Your fourth move can be left up to your discretion. We've recommended Baneful Bunker for the utility, but in actuality Toxic may be a better option for your team composition. Toxic is better for taking down tanks, while Baneful Bunker is better for walling physical attackers.

How To Play Against Toxapex

Switching into a Steel type to avoid Toxic Spikes and rapid spinning is a good idea if there are hazards. If not, simply bring a Pokemon that can safely do at least 60% of its HP in one turn. Otherwise, it will keep recovering.

Don't Use Contact Moves

Baneful Bunker will cause a Pokemon that attacks it with a contact move to become poisoned. As such, you should be aware of whether or not your moves are contact or not.

Use Special Attacks

It seems that many builds currently played online are investing EVs into Defense, so Special Attacks are preferable.

Knock Off The Black Sludge

The move Knock Off will cut off one source of Toxapex's healing, so it comes highly recommended.

That makes sense if you're going to be using this in a Trick Room setup, but otherwise you want it to be faster than other bulky bois

Bobcharty 1

Seeing as it’s base speed is so low. Why not best to use a nature that decreases speed like S***y or Relaxed?
