Bulky Physical Tank
Thanks to its Marvel Scale ability, Milotic's Defense increases by 50% when it has a status condition. This means that if you make it hold a Flame Orb, it will automatically activate. With excellent base stats and the move Recover, Milotic can be a powerful presence which can't be poisoned.
Excellent Special Defenses
Milotic's 125 Sp.Def stat is already so high that it can withstand many special attacks even without EV or Nature investment. The 244 EVs in HP are there to optimize Milotic's HP with regard to burn damage.
Many Viable Move Options
Milotic has several excellent moves it could ostensibly bring to battle. Protect allows it to get through a turn and safely proc its Flame Orb bonus, Mirror Coat lets it fire back at special attackers, Haze stops opponents from setting up, and Icy Wind lowers the target's speed. This move versatility is one of the main draws of Milotic.

How To Play Against Milotic
Keep Self Buffing
Although Milotic is able to use Haze, in most cases it won't have the necessary fire power to take you out right away. Most special attackers should be able to hold their ground and find opportunities to keep using self buffing moves (for example, when Milotic uses Recover or Protect).
Use Taunt!
Milotic relies on status moves to function, so using Taunt will really throw a wrench in its plan. You can effectively stop it in its tracks with Taunt - however, be careful of burns if you're using a physical attacker.
