Stuff Cheeks + Ganlon Berry = Massive Defense Boost
By using the move Stuff Cheeks with a Ganlon Berry, Greedent can raise its defense by 3 stages! In the current meta where physical attackers are common, this is extremely useful.
Set Speed to Slowest + 2
Ferrothorn & Greedent both have the same 20 base speed. If Ferrothorn uses Knock Off and disables your berry, Greedent is out of luck. This build ensures that you will be faster than most Ferrothorns. Speed IV 2 with 0 EVs is ideal, but if you can't do that, IV 0 with 8 EVs is also okay.
Body Press Effective Against Ferrothorn
Body Press uses the users Defense to calculate power, meaning it will be quite strong after 3 boosts. It is also super effective against Ferrothorn!
Has Excellent Attack
Greedent also has good offensive potential. It's low speed gives it access to a very strong Gyro Ball vs Mimikyu, and 3 stage Body Press can also be lethal. Crunch is also good coverage vs. Dragapult.

How To Play Against Greedent
Bring Physical Tanks
A tank Pokemon with high Defense is highly recommended. Greedent lacks the ability to heal itself after consuming its berry, so whittling down its health with a burn is also a good idea.
Use Special Moves
Greedent's Defense stat is quite high, so Special Attack moves are recommended. Just be careful, as Greedent counters Togekiss with Gyro Ball, and Hydreigon with Body Press.
Galarian Corsola Is Ideal
Galarian Corsola's Haze and Will-o-Wisp completely destroy Greedent. Even if hit with a Crunch, you'll be able to Strength Sap the health back immediately.
Knock Off The Berry
Greedent relies on its berry eating strategy to succeed. Considering how slow Greedent is, almost any Pokemon will be able to go first. Consider bringing a Knock Off user!
Greedent - Best Natures And EVs
Greedent - Recommended Natures
Nature | Traits |
---|---|
Relaxed | Defense↑ / Speed↓ This is the main nature if you're running Gyro Ball. |
Impish | Defense↑ / Sp.Atk↓ If you're not planning on including Gyro Ball, go with Impish. |
Which Nature Would You Recommend?
Recommended Base Point (EV) Allocation
Physical Tank Build - (0 Speed IV)
Stat | Base Point |
---|---|
HP | 252 points (max) |
Defense | 244 points (max) |
Speed | 8 points |
Attack | 4 points |
With a speed IV of 0, you'll need 8 EVs in Speed to be faster than Ferrothorn.
Physical Tank Build - (2 Speed IV)
Stat | Base Point |
---|---|
HP | 252 points (max) |
Defense | 252 points (max) |
Attack | 4 points |
With a speed IV of 2, you can outspeed Ferrothorn without any EV investment. This is ideal, but in actuality it can be hard to breed a Greedent with exactly 2 Speed IVs.
