Strong First Impression Sweeper
Durant's main draw is its viability as a sweeper & its access to the incredible Bug-type priority move First Impression. This lets Durant to switch in and quickly take out a Pokemon with low HP.
Good Move Coverage
Durant has decent move coverage, with Steel, Bug, Fighting, Rock, Dark, and Electric move options. Coupled with a higher speed than many Pokemon in the meta, it can be devastating if unchecked.
Hustle And Dynamax Are A Perfect Match
Since Max Moves are guaranteed to hit, the penalty of Durant's Hustle ability is suddenly negated, making it an unstoppable threat. Combined with Max Steelspike increasing Defense and Max Knuckle increasing Attack, Durant can set up a sweep with ease.

Choice Band | Allows only a single move to be used, but boosts Attack by 150% Recommended for most builds as it gives a huge punch to your moves. |
Life Orb | Boosts Move Power by 130% but uses 10% of health per use. Can boost damage output while still leaving move variety - slightly risky, but allows you to use more moves without having to Dynamax right away. |
Durant - Best Nature And EVs
Durant - Recommended Natures
Nature | Traits |
---|---|
Jolly | Spd↑ / Sp.Atk↓ Durant's fairly decent 109 Speed stat becomes even better when boosted with a nature. |
Adamant | Atk↑ / Sp.Atk↓ If relying entirely on First Impression, it's not necessary to have a higher speed. |
Which Nature Would You Recommend?
Recommended Base Point (EV) Allocation
Physical Attacker Durant
Stat | Base Point |
---|---|
Attack | 252 points (max) |
Speed | 252 points (max) |
Defense | 4 points |
Boosting Speed and Attack with the Base Point is recommended for an offensive Durant. The Speed EVs are particularly important because they ensure that it will get the jump on its opponent.
Durant Counters
Recommended Pokemon To Counter Durant
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Cinderace | Pros - Fire type that outspeeds Durant, can one shot easily. - Can handle most attacks Cons - Need a Speed boosting nature to outspeed. |
Galarian Corsola | Pros - Can heal with Strength Sap and reduce Durant's attack Cons - Could possibly die on switch if it takes 2 Crunches |
Dragapult | Pros - Wins on speed - One shot with Fire Blast Cons - Can be one shot by Durant if it doesn't go first or if Fire Blast misses. |
Heat Rotom | Pros - Can one shot with Overheat - Can hit first when using Speed build - Can still out-speed after Dragon Dance if equipped with Choice Scarf Cons - Difficult to switch in. |
How To Play Against Durant
Use Fire Type Moves
Durant takes 4x damage from fire moves, and First Impression / Iron Head are both not very effective against the fire type. It goes without saying that fire is your best bet here.
Anticipate First Impression
First Impression can only be used on the first turn the Pokemon is out, and it will almost certainly go first. To remove the effect of the Choice Band, it's likely that Durant will either switch out or Dynamax after its first turn. Anticipate this to your advantage.
