Nightshade Paolumu Overview
Another new subspeces entering in Iceborne, the Nightshade Paolumu has dark fur & rainbow colored dots on its body. It expels blue gas that will cause the Sleep debuff on your Hunter.
Find In Wildspire Waste & Ancient Forest
You'll first encounter the Nightshade Paolumu in the Wildspire Waste. However, it can also be spotted flying around the Ancient Forest.
Preparing For Nightshade Paolumu
Has A Weakness To Water
The Nightshade Paolumu has a weakness to the Water element. When preparing to face this monster, make sure to equip weapons that have a high water damage output!
Stock Up On Energy Drinks
Make sure to bring some Energy Drinks with you. These items counteract your drowsiness & prevent you from falling asleep. Make sure to immediately use one when you start to doze off in a fight, just before you fall asleep!
Use Clutch Claw To Bring Monster Down

This monster is also able to move around the sleep clouds it emits. You must be aware of the sleep cloud's position in order to avoid getting inflicted with the sleep status.

|Sleep Cloud||The monster will emit a blue sleep gas that will put you to sleep if you come in contact with it. Remains on the battlefield for a time|
|Sleep Breath Attack||The monster will spit out a bubble of air. When the attack hits, it will turn into a blue sleep cloud|
|Aerial Rush||When airborne, the monster will start to bounce around the area before charging at you|
Check Positioning Of Sleep Gas
When fighting the Nightshade Paolumu, always make sure to keep track of the position of the monster's multiple sleep clouds. Since these clouds stay on the field for a while, it is best to avoid these to prevent falling asleep!
Use Flinch Shot On Face To Bring Monster Down
The Nightshade Paolumu likes to fly around often. You can bring it down by using your Slinger Burst or Flinch Shot on its face. This will disorient the monster and send it reeling into the ground, open for your attacks. This works whether its neck is inflated or not.
Flinch Shot Doesn't Work When Enraged
When the Nightshade Paolumu is enraged, hitting it with a Flinch Shot or Slinger Burst when flying around will not make it fall. So it's best to keep safe and wait until the monster has calmed down.
Ranged Weapons Are A Great Way To Damage
If you do not have an abundance of Flash Pods, another viable way to damage the monster is to use ranged weapons. Since this monster spends most of its time in the air, you will be able to hit it from any range! Don't forget to bring water ammo!
