How To Prepare For A Hunt
Boost Your Stats with Meals From The Canteen
Make sure to eat a meal from the canteen before you leave for the hunt. This boosts your stats, including HP & stamina, as well as some of your Palico's stats. This is valuable especially for tougher hunts!
Prepare Your Loadout
Make sure to carry weapons, armor & items that best fit the hunt you will undertake. Certain weapons and items have stats that work well against specific monsters.
How To Hunt & Defeat Large Monsters & Elder Dragons
Look For Tracks To Aid Your Search

Check Out How To Find & Track Large Monsters Here!Don't Immediately Engage The Monster
Certain monsters can be asleep, or walking around when you find them, and may not immediately attack you. Use this time to prepare or use items before you engage.
Observe The Monster's Moves & Attacks
Each monster has a unique set of moves & attacks, and this is key to a successful hunt. Being able to determine their moves will allow you to dodge at the right time, and know when to attack!
Find Opportunities To Attack
Time your attacks well and deal damage to the monster. After dealing enough damage, or when you break a specific part, they can fall over and give you an opportunity to deal large damage! You can also use Flashbugs or other items to weaken them.
Look For Environmental Traps
Watch out for environmental traps you can use against monsters. These can cause them to fall over, and give you opportunities to attack as well!
Check If They Are Limping & Follow
Once they are weak enough, monsters will start limping and rest in a specific area of the map. Follow them to this area and let them rest. Set up bombs before you attack them for maximum damage!
