A Tempered Gold Rathian will only appear in the Wildspire Region of the Guiding Lands. You need to raise the Wildspire region level to 7 for it to spawn.

Gold Rathian Overview

Beautiful and deadly, the Gold Rathian is a rare subspecies of the Rathian. It's known for its shimmering golden scales and extremley potent poison and fire attacks.

Unlocked in Guiding Lands

The Gold Rathian can only be spawned within the Guiding Lands. Besides that and Investigations, you will not find it roaming around other areas in the New World.

Preparing For Gold Rathian

Get a Weapon with High Sharpness

The armor of the Gold Rathian is extremely tough, making weapons bounce off immediately if it's low in sharpness. It's highly recommended to bring a purple sharpness weapon.

Bring Antidotes & Herbal Medicine

With the poison spikes on Rathian's tail, there's a huge risk of getting poisoned when hit by its tail swipe. Bring Antidotes and Herbal Medicine to immediately get it out.

Use Flinch Shot To Bring It Down

The Gold Rathian will fly more than its normal and Pink variants. Use your Clutch Claw and bring it down when it's not enraged to create more openings for attacks.

Gold Rathian - Moves & Counters

Multiple BreathBreath attacks in front of Gold Rathian
BiteSteps forward and bite twice. Attack range extends forward so dodge to the side.
StompJump up and tries to crush the hunter. Can be dodged when you see it jump.
Tail SwipeSpins and swipe its tail. Does this move when it's not flying.
SomersaultSwings its tail vertically. Gets poisoned when getting hit.
Multiple SomersaultSpins few times and attacks with its tail. Very wide range attack.
Air Breath attack
Fire a wide-range and very powerful charged breath attack from the skies. Dodge far, far away or use flash pods.

Focus On Defense While Its In Flight

The Gold Rathian's flight attacks are relentless. Don't try to attack it if you can't safely do so. Focus on dodging until it comes down or is brought down by a Flash Pod or Flinch Shot.

Stay Clear Of Flames On Ground

Stay Clear Of Flames On Ground

Gold Rathian leaves small puddles of flame on the ground where its breath attack struck. Don't get near them or you'll receive damaged.

Keep Distance When It Roars With Flames

The Gold Rathian's breath attack and range increases when it starts to roar with flames in its mouth. The monster will become increasingly aggressive and dangerous during this time.

Hit Its Head To Deactivate Flaming Roar

Hit Its Head To Deactivate Flaming Roar

By accumulating certain amount of damage to its head, you can deactivate the flaming roar mode and stun for a while.

Umm... there are actually event quests that are 6 star MR level 70+ for both gold rathian and silver rathalos so investigations and Guiding Lands are not the only places for it.
