Jail System
Getting Arrested
When you commit a crime and are witnessed by a guard, they will confront you and demand that you pay a fine. If you refuse or cannot afford to pay the fine, they will attempt to arrest you.
Surrender Or Resist
You have the option to either surrender and go to jail or resist arrest. Resisting arrest may lead to a fight with the guards and additional bounty on your head. If you're subdued or yield during the battle, you'll be arrested anyway.
Jail Time
Each Faction has its own jail and after being arrested, you will be taken to the nearest jail in the area where the crime was committed. You don't actually have to wait to be released. You will lose some items and the game will tell you how long you've spent in jail.
Faction Bounties
Your criminal actions can affect your standing with various factions in the game. Committing crimes in a particular Faction may make it difficult to join or progress within certain factions. Conversely, some factions may help you escape legal trouble or clear your name.

On the other hand, you have the option to settle your bounty with any Faction to clear your criminal record without the need for jail time. This can be accomplished by using the Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk Terminal.
Bounty - How To Pay & Clear BountiesBribe Guards
Your items are likely to get confiscated by the authorities, however you can bribe guards if you unlock the Negotiation Skill to keep your stolen goods and avoid going behind bars.
Hiding Contraband
You will get arrested when you are caught having Contraband Items on your inventory or ship when scanned by authorities. You will need to customize your ship to hide these Contrabands from scans if you have stolen goods with you.
