What Is A Ship Storage?

Extra Inventory Inside The Ship

You character can carry a limited amount of items and exceeding this limit can result in reduced mobility including your ability to Fast Travel to locations. The Ship Cargo offers more than the character's item capacity which you can use to store extra items that may be of use later in your explorations.

How To Access Ship Cargo?

Open Inventory Menu Inside Ship

Choose Ship Cargo.
Click Q for PC and LB on consoles.

The easiest way to open the Ship's Inventory is to open your character inventory first then switch to the Cargo Hold by pressing Q in PC and LB for consoles. However, you can only do this when you are inside the ship.

Use The Ship Cargo's Panel

Another way to access the Ship's Inventory is to access it manually from the Cargo Hold Panel inside the ship.

How To Find The Ship's Cargo Hold Panel

You can access your ship's inventory through a panel, although the location and accessibility depends on your ship's design. The Cargo Hold panel can be usually found near the pilot's seat. So better check there first if you have a hard time finding it.

Ship Menu Can't Be Accessed When Not Near

You can only access the Cargo Hold menu when you are near the ship. This means you won't be able to withdraw or deposit items in the Ship Storage unless your are inside the ship or within the vicinity.

There's Also A Weight Limit

The size of the cargo hold may vary based on the ship's design and storage capacity for items differ base on this. The ship available at the start holds up to 450 which you can later upgrade to increase your ship's inventory capacity in the Ship Builder.

How To Check Ship's Weight Limit

The Ship's Inventory Limit can be seen at the bottom next to your credits. This can be viewed at once when you have opened the Cargo Hold.

How To Use Ship Storage

Deposit Extra Item In The Inventory

Similar to the Character's Inventory, you can store certain items you have picked up along the way. The Ship's Inventory is much bigger and can hold more resources, so you can get more items and resources during your surveys.

Things You Can Store

Press Q Or LB To Access When Trading Items

When there's a nearby trader, you can exchange items directly from you ship's cargo by pressing the Q button or LB in consoles. This way you won't have to transfer items to your character back and forth to trade items.

How To Increase Ship Storage

Upgrade Payloads Tech Skills

RankUpgrade Details
Rank 1 Ship cargo holds have 10% more capacity.
Rank 2 Ship cargo holds have 20% more capacity.
Rank 3 Ship cargo holds have 30% more capacity.
Rank 4 Ship cargo holds have 50% more capacity.

An easy way to increase your ship storage is to unlock the Payload Skill under the Tech Skill Tree. However, you will need to spend some Skill Points to unlock it and the following subsequent upgrades you can do later.

Use Ship Builder To Add Cargo Hold

Another way to increase your ship's inventory is through modifying your ship. You can duplicate your current Cargo Hold or you can purchase a newer and bigger one in the Cargo Section in the menu, take note that the available Cargo Hold items differ depending on the Ship Technician. However, it's essential to consider your ship's design and size before making any increases, as unbalanced changes can potentially affect your ship's performance.
