Why Do You Need Research?

Essential For Creating & Upgrading Equipment

Weapon Workbench

To craft equipment and weapons, you need the recipe from research. Without it, even if you have the materials, you can't craft a weapon with specific features, such as an optical laser.

Crafting - How To Craft Weapons & Armor?

Weaponry Takes Priority Over Equipment

Weaponfy mods

Researching Equipment allows for improving the helmet's oxygen or the pack's capability, while researching Weaponry unlocks weapon mods to gain more advantages in early-game combat.

How To Progress Research Projects?

Access Research Station On Your Ship Or Outposts

Research station on your ship

During your journey, you will find several Research Stations. The first is located on your ship, the Frontier. Additionally, you can construct a Research Station when building an Outpost.

Select The Project You Want To Research

Research station select

From the Research Projects of 5 categories, choose the one that allows you to craft the items you want or enhance crafting abilities.

Materials And Skills Are Required

Materials Available

The projects that have available materials are highlighted with a yellow banner on the left side, and the available materials flash. If you don't have enough materials, you can use Track Project to help you search for them. Additionally, some projects require certain Skills to unlock.

Sudden Development May Happen

Sudden Development

Inputting the required amount of material may lead to a Sudden Development, which will distribute research progress overflow to other aspects of the project.

The "Research Methods" Skill Enhances Efficiency

Research Methods Rank4 Icon
RankEffect
1Resources required to craft items and complete research projects is reduced by 10%.
2Resources required to craft items and complete research projects is reduced by 20%.
3Resources required to craft items and complete research projects is reduced by 40%.
4Sudden developments during research are twice as common. Resources required to craft items and complete research projects is reduced by 60%.

With the "Research Methods" science skill, research efficiency greatly increases by reducing required items and time needed. As rank increases, efficiency improves further.

What Does Research Lab Do?

Unlocks Recipes To Craft Items

Research Lab

The Research Lab allows you to unlock new crafting recipes by completing research projects, which require specific materials to make progress.

Collect Materials By Extracting Or Manufacturing

The materials needed can range from raw minerals from planets and organic substances from creatures to manufactured components at Industrial Workbench.

5 Types Of Recipes Can Be Unlocked

There are five categories of research:

  • Pharmacology:
  • Craft healing items and enhances the potency.
  • Food and Drink:
  • Create edible items with boosting effects.
  • Outpost Development:
  • Construct development modules at outposts.
  • Equipment:
  • Craft armor mods.
  • Weaponry:
  • Craft weapon mods.

It is important to prioritize the categories you want to research. While all categories are important, It is best to focus on one first.
