Arch Tempered Nergigante - Tips and Tricks

Stronger White Spikes, Faster Transformation to Black Spikes

Arch Tempered Nergigante's white spikes are more resistant to damage than the usual, requiring the player to concentrate on one spot to deliver effective damage. Also, the speed in which they turn to black, which can deflect most weapons, is faster.

Can Dive even with White Spikes

Arch Tempered Nergigante can dive even while covered with White Spikes, significantly increasing the frequency of its usage during a fight.

Black Spike Frequency is Increased

Whenever Arch Tempered Nergigante dives, its black thorns are shed away. Upon recovery, Nergigante regrows it with white ones. Use this opportunity to break them before they turn black again.

New Fast Attack: Jump Crush

Arch Tempered Nergigante also comes with a new attack: jump then crush. The movement for this is very fast and evading it is difficult.

"Evade Window" Helps

Evade Window prolongs the invulnerability window of a hunter's roll. While Arch Tempered Nergigante's wind up for this attack is short, it can still be evaded. Having Evade Window definitely helps.

Take Advantage of the Turf Wars

In Area 9, Teostra or Kushala Daora will enter the area to start a Turf War. Should Nergigante and either of these two encounter each other, a Turf War would ensue, dealing a large amount of damage for both participants in the scuffle.

Do Not Meddle!

Joining the fight and possibly flinching or knocking down one of the dragons before the Turf War would prevent it from happening, leaving two dragons in one area for the player to contend with. Wait until the Turf War is over before attacking.

Arch Tempered Nergigante - Moves & Counters

MovesDescription & Counter
Jump CrushArch Tempered Nergigante's new move. Very fast and hits hard. Provides little window to react and evade. There is a possibility for Nergigante to string this move continuously.
Spinning AttackArch Tempered Nergigante spins to attack. Damage is very high and has a wide reach due to the size of its tail. Keep distance if you're not yet familiar with the reach of this move.
CounterattackNergigante's counter to heavy attacks. Nergigante retreats then crushes with its upper body. The move is similar to Nergigante's flinching so be very careful not be drawn in.

Fight in Area 8

Compared to the Normal and the Tempered version, Arch Tempered Nergigante spawns in Area 8. Use rocks to collapse the two jutting large crystals from the ceiling to deal massive damage to Nergigante.

Nergigante Strategy Stone

Use stones to crash the two crystals (pictured above) down onto Nergigante. You can get some stones to use in the neighboring Area 9.

Turf War in Area 9

Nergigante Turf War

Once enough time has passed or enough damage has been received, Arch Tempered Nergigante will move on to Area 9. After a while, Kushala Daora or Teostra will enter the area. Immediately after entering, do not mount, stun, paralyze, or put to sleep, any of the dragons, as doing so would prevent the Turf War from occuring

Battle in Area 12 and Area 11

Nergigante Areas 11 to 12

After Area 9, Arch Tempered Nergigante will move to Areas 12, then on to Area 11. There're no special things that you can do in these areas. Though, be mindful of the heat and bring a Cold Drink. Also, be careful of the irregular ground level in this area.

Back to Area 8

If Arch Tempered Nergigante's health is whittled down to near-death, the battle would then move to Area 8. If you forgot or missed the opportunity to crush Nergigante with the crystals, you can do it here. After some time, Nergigante will move to Area 15 to rest.

Climactic Fight in Area 15

Nergigante Sleeping Bomb

While Nergigante is sleeping, take this opportunity to place Mega Barrel Bombs. After it wakes up, it will destroy one of the walls in Area 15. Use this new space to your advantage.

Play Cautiously If Solo

Once the bombs have exploded, you can retreat and wait for the cooldown of your mantles. Retreating will cause Nergigante to sleep again, thereby giving you another opportunity to go back to camp and get some bombs to use.

Make Use of Large Areas

Areas 11 and 12 are very narrow and would prove to be disadvantageous to the player. You can lead Nergigante to wide open areas like Area 9 for better mobility. Doing this technique will force Nergigante to skip going to the other areas.

No Rest in Area 15

Due to its narrow battlefield, there is a large chance for hunters to faint against Nergigante in Area 15. To prevent Nergigante from going to this area, just mount, flash, paralyze, put to sleep, or hit Nergigante with Crystalburst.
