Aim To Damage It's Head

Aim to Damage Its Head

If you want to deal the most damage to the Kulu-Ya-Ku, aim to damage it by hitting its head. Since the monster attacks whatever is in front of it, you can opt to position yourself to the side while still aiming at the monster's weak spot.

Make It A Habit To Dodge To The Side

Make It A Habit To Dodge To The Side

It is best to dodge to the side when facing a Kulu-Ya-Ku. Despite only attacking its front, it has a very long range of attack. It may still hit you with its attacks even if you dodge backwards due to its leaping ability, and long reach.

Kulu-Ya-Ku Occasionally Picks Up a Rock

Keep an eye on when the Kulu-Ya-Ku picks up a rock. It acts as both a shield and weapon for the monster. It will shield the Kulu-Ya-Ku from your attacks, while at the same time, lets the monster use it to bash you for tons of damage!

Kulu-Ya-Ku - Moves & Counters

PeckWill peck at whatever is in front of it three times in a row while moving forward. Can be evaded by dodging to the side.
Scratch AttacksAfter a brief wind-up, will swipe at whatever is in front of it.
Leap AttackWill jump forward and attack you using its hind legs, or rock, depending on whether it has picked up an object. Can be dodged by evading to the side.
Rock SlamWill slam the rock at whatever is in front of it. Can be dodged by moving to the side.

Kulu-Ya-Ku Can Jump Long Distances

The Kulu-Ya-Ku is able to jump for long distances in order to hit the Hunter. Instead of trying to evade by dodging backward, it is best to dodge to the side to completely avoid getting hit by its long range leap attack,

Slinger Makes the Kulu-Ya-Ku Drop The Rock

Being able to damage the Kulu-Ya-Ku may be difficult when it is holding up the rock. You can use your slinger to shoot at its body, and it will eventually drop the rock. You can then go in and deal more damage to the monster!
