What Is Downgrading Equipment?
Returning Weapon To Previous State
In Monster Hunter World, you'll be able to return your weapon to a previous state by "downgrading" it. This is a new feature that was only introduced in this Monster Hunter game.
Certain Upgrades Don't Allow Rollback
Certain weapon upgrades will not allow you to downgrade your weapon. These usually prompt you to confirm before you choose this upgrade. Make sure you want to proceed with the upgrade before you confirm.
Augmented Weapons Cannot Be Downgraded
Once you've augmented a weapon in this game, you won't be able to downgrade them to a previous state. This means that the augmentation is permanent & altering the weapon cannot be done anymore.
Armor Cannot Be Downgraded
In MHW, you can only downgrade your weapons. Armor can only be upgraded via Armor Spheres. If you wish to downgrade your armor, you need to forge a new piece in the Smithy.
Why You Should Downgrade Gear
Change The Upgrade Tree Of Your Weapon
Downgrading weapons will allow you to change the upgrade tree of your weapon. This means you can choose a different upgrade route for your weapon and is useful when you want to change the elemental attributes of your weapon.
Get Back Materials Used In Upgrading
When you downgrade weapons, the materials that you used to upgrade them will return to you. This can be helpful, especially if you need a rare material that was used in the previous upgrade. However, you don't get back the money you spent on upgrading that weapon.
How To Downgrade Weapon & Armor
Go To Smithy & Select Upgrade Equipment
Take the lift to the Workshop and talk to the Smithy leader. Choose "Upgrade Equipment" and select the weapon you want to downgrade.
Select Chosen Weapon & Choose Previous Upgrade
When you've chosen the weapon you want to downgrade, you simply have to find it in the weapon tree and select the icon of its previous upgrade.
Confirm To Downgrade Your Weapon
When you've selected the previous weapon upgrade, confirm the selection to successfully downgrade your weapon.
