Adjust Mouse & Controller Sensitivity
Remember to regularly experiment and tune your sensitivities and settings to those that suit you. Although debatable, low sensitivity settings are better suited for beginners since it allows for precise adjustments.

When playing on PC, it is highly recommended you turn off Mouse Acceleration and Vertical Sync setting found in the game menu and on your PC's OS settings. These will in most cases result in you overshooting your aim.
Aim Assist have 3 Options
In CODMW, there are 3 Aim Assist options on gamepad; Standard, Experimental and Enhanced. These Aim Assist work in a way as it slows down your aim when pointing close to a target, with each varying degree of assist levels.
Make Habit of Aiming for Headshots
Learning how to land a headshot is an essential key to racking up quick kills. Practice thoroughly to be able to quickly place your crosshair on the target even in a quick encounter.

Although this can differ from player to player, it is recommended to aim near the lower part of the enemy's jaw and neck seam. This will provide a good chance of landing a headshot, even when firing in bursts.
Do Not Sway Your Aim
Remember to keep your mouse movement (especially the vertical aim) to minimum while firing. Keeping calm even in a sudden encounter will allow more shots to connect to your target.
Strafe to Align Your Shots
Don't aim your guns just by using your hands! Strafing to align your horizontal aim is a good way to practice keeping your aim still in a gunfight.
ADS for Mid-Long Range & Hipfire for Close Range
You will not always have to aim down your sights before firing. Although it will help you be more accurate in mid-long range engagements, ADS will also limit your field of vision, require a moment to aim your gun, and make it harder to aim for closer targets.
Anticipate Your Target
Although it takes practice, learning each map's geography will allow you to learn where enemies are likely to appear. Make habit to memorize where the enemies might pop up.

Make habit to point your crosshair on places that you think the enemy's head might pop up while traversing. You will have better chance of winning a gunfight if you already have your aim aligned.
Use Different Angle of Engagement
Keep your enemies guessing where your next point of engagement will be. Try to engage from an angle where the enemy will not suspect. Using prone and crouching can also accomplish this.

Engaging enemies while crouching or in prone will not only make you a smaller target, but will force the enemy to adjust their aim downwards before shooting, giving you an advantage to align your shots first.
Mount Your Gun to Reduce Recoil
Mounting your weapon onto the sides of obstacles will allow you to reduce the recoil of your weapon when firing. Make it a habit of mounting your weapons to increase your accuracy and constantly hit your targets.
Know Your Gun's Characteristics
Familiarize yourself with your guns by testing its effective range, shot patterns, and other statistics. Remember that you may also tailor these stats by using attachments.
