How to Capture the Petricanth

Appears InRotten Vale, Area 15 (Pond behind the Plunderers)
Elder's Recess, Area 8 (Eastern Camp Pond)
TrophiesEarn the trophy"A Living Fossil" when captured

The Petricanth is a legendary fish is known as the Living Fossil. Its body is dotted with bright blue spots that make it stunning to look at. However, it is a very rare spawn and will require your patience to catch!

How to Spawn the Petricanth

No.Procedure
1Complete all Piscine Researcher Critical Bounties
2Talk to the Piscine Researcher in the Rotten Vale to receive the bounty
3Head to Area 15 of the Rotten Vale to check if the Petricanth has spawned
4If not, head to Area 8 of the Elder's Recess to see if the Petricanth has spawned
5If not, repeat steps 3-5 until the Petricanth has spawned

Make Sure to Complete Other Critica; Bounties

Make sure that you have completed all of the other Critical Bounties involving Piscine Field Researchers. Once you've completed those, talk to the Piscine Field Researcher in the Rotten Vale to trigger the bounty!

Use Binoculars To Scout the Pond

When looking for the Petricanth at fishing ponds, equip some Binoculars to observe the area better. The Binoculars allow you to see further, meaning you don't need to get too close and scare the Petricanth away!

Minigame Triggers When Petricanth Bites

Once the Petricanth swallows your bait, immediately pull up your rod! There will be a small minigame where you need to follow button prompts so be ready or else the fish will get away!

Use A Fishing Rod To Catch Fish

Use a Fishing Rod to Catch Fish

There will be small bodies of water around the map that will allow you to fish. Equip a fishing rod from your radial menu to start fishing.

Fishing Difficulty Differs Depending on the Fish

The difficulty of catching the fish differs based on the rarity and / or size of the fish. Some fish can easily be caught by pulling up your rod when they bite. However, other fish will trigger minigames that you need to clear in order to catch them!

The Capture Net Can Also Catch Fish

The Capture Net Can Also Catch Fish

The Fishing Rod is not the only way you can catch fish. You can also use the Capture Net and try to catch the fish! Please note that the Capture Net at times, may not be as accurate as the Fishing Rod.

Catching Fish Rewards Research Points & Scales

Catching Fish Rewards Research Points & Scales

Capturing a fish will reward you with some of the fish's scales, as well as some research points. You can use the scales of the fish to sharpen your weapon so use them wisely!
