Diablos - Tips and Tricks

Use Ice Against Diablos!

Diablos is very weak against Ice, so be sure to bring weapons to can capitalize on this weakness. Dragon and Water weapons are also effective. Diablos' weak points are its head, wings, and chest. Hitting its head can stun it and its tail can be cut off.

Diablos Screamer Pod

Bring Screamer and Flash Pods

Diablos' attack pattern involves frequently diving into the ground. You can force it to come out and immobilize it for a couple of seconds through the use of a Screamer Pod. Above ground, Flash Pods work perfectly against it.

Rocksteady Mantle

Bring the Right Tools

Diablos' roars disable the player and can be fatal at times. To counteract this, a Rocksteady Mantle is a must. Against Diablos' charge attacks, an Evasion Mantle would be better. For beginners, Vitality Mantle is the way to go.

Diablos - Moves & Counters

MovesDescription & Counter
ChargeDiablos aims for a hunter to charge. Has a high damage when compared to the charges of other monsters. Dive to the sides to evade.
Underground ChargeDiablos buries itself and charges from underground. Screamer Pods can force it to come out and disable it for a while.
LungeDiablos uses the full weight of its body to knock hunters back. Roll under Diablos and attack from the other side when it starts to tiptoe.
Horn AttackDiablos thursts its horns and swipes at a wide angle twice. Be wary of this attack when attacking Diablos from the front.
Tail SwipeDiablos's swings its tail at attackers from behind. Dive under Diablos when it turns its head towards its back.
Diablos Screamer Pod

Drive Diablos Out with Screamer Pods!

When underground, Diablos can be forcibly driven out with Screamer Pods. Once affected, Diablos' upper half will jut out from the ground and can be attacked. It can also use this as an escape mechanism when moving between different areas. Best prepare Screamer Pods for these scenarios.

Lure and Break Diablos' Horns

In Area 8 of the Wildspire Wastes, large spires are located across the field. Baiting Diablos to charge into one of these towers has a possibility of breaking its horns. If the horns do not break, Diablos will remain stuck and immobilized for a couple of seconds, opening itself to attacks. You can also do this technique near the entrances of Area 13.

Beware of the Rage and Roar Combo

When enraged, Diablos will have a noticeable increase in speed and attack damage. Sometimes, Diablos would roar, immobilizing the hunter, and then following it up with a devastating charge attack which could leave some hunters fainting. Counter this by mounting Diablos or by blinding it with a Flash Pod.

Diablos Wall Attack

Sand Walls in Area 14

Diablos can make use of the sandfalls in the opposite walls of Area 14. Diablos can burrow underground and then come out of these walls to strike the player. It can also do the other way around. Be wary of these surprise attacks when fighting in Area 14.

The small wingdrakes aboveground, I think they're called Nois (Noiz?), can be used as improvised Screamer pods. Just hit one with any ranged weapon or Slinger ammo to set the flock screaming. You can also sometimes carve Screamer Pods from their bodies.
