Death Penalty In FF16
There Is No Death Penalty
Losing a battle doesn't come with any major drawbacks, as you can simply resume from a nearby Obelisk. No need to go back to previously saved data like in past games.
Can Retry Boss Battles On The Spot
When in a boss fight or an area without an Obelisk nearby, it may be able to restart from the start of the battle.
What Happens When You Get A Game Over
Potion Increases To The Maximum Amount You Can Hold
When you retry after a game over, all your Potions and High Potions will be replenished to the max amount that you can hold. This let's you redo the stage without having to go back to the shop to buy after a loss.
Strength Tonics & Stoneskin Tonics Are Not Replenished
Only Potion items will be replenished. This does not include medicine items.
Be Careful When Returning To The Title Screen
If you select "Return to Title Screen" when you get a game over, you will have to start over from where your save data is. It is fine if you save frequently, but basically it is recommended to just retry.
