Optimal Distance From Trunks
Most of Trunk's big attacks is melee range, and he would often lounge towards you to strike. Maintaining mid-distance can give you the distance needed to evade most of his attacks.
Recovers From Martial Arts Combos Quickly
Trunks can recover from combo stuns quite quickly, meaning you'll be left exposed if you try to chain too much combos onto him. Slower Special Attacks such as Kamehameha may give him opportunity to strike back.
Defend Against Shining Sword Attack For An Opening
Shining Sword Attack can be defended for a relatively small HP loss but exposes Trunks for a long time, making it a very good HP trading method.

Charged Sword Slash
Trunk's body will shine red as in charging up, and then he will slash in 360 degrees across a wide area. Defend against it and counterattack.

Shining Sword Attack
Raises his sword and lunge in a straight line for a sword slash attack. Can be defended against if you've got a high defend charge is high. Dash just as it is about to connect to evade.
Burning Attack
Fires a Burning Energy Ball after charging up that will create a huge explosion as if it connects. The charge-time is short, so keep dashing to the sides to evade.
