How Do You Standoff?

Push Up On D-pad Once Prompted

Push Up On D-pad Once Prompted

You can initiate a stand off with your enemy when you push Up on your D-pad when prompted on screen. You will only get a chance to prompt the stand off before the enemy notices and turns hostile.

Closest Enemy Will Challenge You On Standoff

When you initiate a stand off, the enemy closest to you will take part in the standoff. The challenging enemy can even be a Mongol Leader.

Hold △ And Release When Enemy Attacks

Hold △ And Release When Enemy Attacks

Once your stand off starts, hold the △ button until your enemy swings in for an attack. Releasing any earlier or later may result in you failing the stand off and being critically wounded. The enemy may also throw a feint to throw your timing off.

Push △ For Standoff Streak

Once you have a Chain Stand Off technique unlocked, up to 2 more enemies will jump in after your initial stand off. Tap your △ as they close in to kill the assaulter. Take note that you do not need to hold you △ down for the Standoff Streak.

Upon completing a successful stand off, you will any enemy in that stand off with a single attack. You can use this to take out the tougher enemies first before going into battle, but should you fail, you will also take critical damage.

Tips To Win A Standoff

Listen For Enemy

Although not every enemy does so, most of the enemies you face will let out a war cry as he charges in for an attack. Use this as one of the indicators to distinguish their feints.

Tap △ For Standoff Streak

Tap △ For Chain Stand Offs

You may sometimes get your controls mixed up in the heat of the moment when initiating a Standoff Streak. Remember, you do not need to hold the △ for Chain Stand Offs; doing so will initiate an early attack and will leave you gravely wounded.

Use Earned Resolve To Take Down Survivors

With an successful Standoff, you will earn 4+ charges of Resolves. You can use these resolves to chain your stand off with a Mythical Technique, cutting down the remaining enemy numbers.
