What Is Parry?
Block Enemy Attack The Moment It Strikes
Parrying can be executed when you block the enemy attack the moment it hits you. Parrying enemy attacks can put them off guard, and open them to counter attacks and other follow ups. To parry, press L1 the moment the attack is about to connect then follow up with either □ or △ for a quick counter.
Only Certain Attacks Can Be Parried
Not all enemy attacks can be parried. Powerful strikes, ones with a red cross indicator, cannot be parried or blocked by usual means (requires unlocking technique to parry). Prior to learning those techniques, consider dodging away from its attacks.
Tips To Parrying Successfully
Memorize Enemy Attack Patterns
The simplest and most effective way to successful parry is learning the enemy movements and attack telegraphs. Most enemies' attack pattern can be dictated, depending on the weapon they use. Carefully observe their patterns to know the timing to prep your blocks.

Heavies take a good amount of damage to Stagger. You can shorten the time to Stagger by waiting and countering their attack using parry. Do note that this may put you at a disadvantage as archers and other enemy units might gang up on you.
Familiarize The Attack Trajectory Per Weapon
Each type of enemy weapon has a common trajectory that you may exploit to evade or parry to open them for counters. For example, maces will often be swung from side to side, giving it a very wide arc but limited range. The spear on the other hand, has a long horizontal reach but limited attack arc to its sides.
