Thops is located southwest of the Lake-Facing Cliffs Site of Grace in Liurnia. When you talk to him, choose the "Offer 10 runes" option to be able to buy sorceries. Keep talking to him and listen to what he has to say about the Academy Glintstone Key.

To enter Raya Lucaria Academy, you will need the Academy Glinstone Key. Go ahead and get the key before heading to the main gate.
How To Obtain Academy Glintstone Key

The key can be found behind the Glintstone Dragon Smarag, which is north of the Temple Quarter Site of Grace. After obtaining the key, head for the Main Academy Gate from the Academy Gate Town. Use the key to break the seal and enter Raya Lucaria Academy.
Use The Warp Device When You Get There For The First Time

When visiting Raya Lucaria Academy for the first time, it is recommended to use the warp device located in the Laskyar Ruins. With this, you can easily get to the entrance without alerting the soldiers guarding the academy.

When you arrive at Raya Lucaria Academy, head to the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace and then to the Debate Parlor, where you'll find the Red Wolf of Radagon boss. After defeating the boss, the Debate Parlor Site of Grace will appear.

The second Academy Glintstone Key can be found on the chandelier in the Church Of The Cuckoo. Cross the roof from the Debate Parlor Site of Grace to the Church Of The Cuckoo. Take note that Thops will not accept the first Academy Glintstone Key that the player used to enter the academy.
Where To Find The Second Academy Glintstone Key
After obtaining the second Academy Glintstone Key in Raya Lucaria Academy, return to the Church of Irith and give it to Thops. He will then reward you with the Erudition gesture. After reloading, visit the Church of Irith again to find a Teardrop Scarab. Defeat it to obtain the Thops' Barrier Ash of War.
Use Of The Erudition Gesture
The Erudition gesture can be used at two towers in Liurnia to break the seals of the towers. You can get important items such as Memory Stones in those areas so do not forget to unlock them.

After exiting the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace in Raya Lucaria Academy, you can find Thops just outside. If you examine his corpse, you'll obtain the Academy Glintstone Staff weapon, Thops' Barrier Sorcery and Thops' Bell Bearing.
