You will face off grave digger twice in total: once when you get all parts for the cable car, and a final showdown at the cemetery. You will only need to kill it in the final encounter.

The most effective weapon against grave digger is the Acid Round from the grenade launcher, taking it down in ~ 12 shots. It is mostly obtained by combining gunpowder B with grenade Rounds, or reloading them from BC Gunpowder.

High damaging weapons like the Magnum or other types of grenades are also viable against Grave Digger. Even shotguns can work, provided you know how to dodge.

First Encounter: Bait It Away By Running Between Switches
For the first encounter, bait Grave Digger by running next to a switch, wait for grave digger to appear, then quickly run to the other switch to activate it. Turn on 2 switches to unlock the ladder switch for the final escape.

You won't get anything for beating Grave Digger for this encounter, nor will you kill it for good. Save your ammo for later.
Acid Rounds Forces A Retreat
if you fire a acid round on the grave digger, it will shrivel and retreat to the hole for a few seconds, letting you interact with the switch easier. If HP loss is your concern, bring 2 acid rounds for the 2 switches.
Second Encounter: Run From Ground Tremors
For the final encounter, run back and forth to avoid the grave digger bursting from the ground. After evading its attack, use the time window to shoot at it with your weapon (preferably Acid rounds or Magnum).
Shoot Lamp When It Starts To Flicker
A way to defeat grave digger without using much resources is to survive until the park lamps start to flicker. Then, shoot the lamps to electrocute the pond. If grave digger appears near it, it will instantly be killed.
