How to Perform a Dodge
R1 + LStick to Dodge
The dodge can be performed by pressing R1, and tilting your LStick in any direction. This will cause your character to quickly move 2~3 steps in the direction you're holding the LStick.
Perform a Backstep With R1
Alternatively, you can perform a backstep by pressing R1 without any input from the LStick. This will make your character quickly move 2~3 steps backward.
Time Dodges to Perform a Perfect Dodge
Time your dodges with the enemy's attack to perform a Perfect Dodge! If done correctly, the screen will flash white.
Aim Assist After Dodging
Immediately pressing L2 after performing a dodge will automatically make your character aim for the enemy's head. This is a useful technique that you should master early on in order to survive longer in the late game!
When to Perform a Dodge
Use To Maintain Distance From Enemy
The dodge and backstep are useful skills in your arsenal for survival. Using them to keep a safe distance from the enemy will keep you out of their range, while also making it easier for you to connect your shots! Especially useful when you are surrounded by enemies!
Use To Avoid Attacks
Dodging will help you avoid potentially deadly attacks from enemies. It is especially effective in situations where you need to get past an enemy that you don't need to fight. However, make sure to time your dodges as dodging at the wrong time will cause you to get hit!
Increase Dodge Window With Items
You can use S.T.A.R.S Field Combat Manual to increase your dodge window for a perfect dodge. It is a shop item that becomes available when you beat the game and can be bought with points.
