Aim For The Head
All zombies have a common weakness; its head. Pumping lead into its head will flinch it, making an opening for maneuver.
Critical Hit Kills Zombies Instantly
You may score a critical hit on zombies sometime when you shoot at its head with a distinctive effect. This can take a zombie down in a single shot, and allow you to save ammo.
Measure Amount Of Blood Splash For Critical
Critical hits with your shot will show a unique shockwave effect and create a bigger blood splash from the zombie. Keep an eye out for these effects to save yourself from overkilling them.
Required Shots To Kill A Zombie
Using the standard Handgun as an example, we have tested how many shots it takes to kill a zombie. Use the table below as a reference to minimize ammo consumption.

Use Environmental Objects To Kill Zombies
There are certain objects littered around the game where you can use as a booby trap of some sort for your tactical advantage.
Blow Up Explosive Barrels
Shooting at red explosive barrels can cause an explosion, allowing you to take down multiple zombies at once. Be sure to keep your distance as the explosion can also hurt you.
Electrocute For A Easy Shot
You can stun zombies by electrocuting them by damaging a small generator. You can use this chance to attack the zombies safely while stunned.
How To Avoid Zombies
Utilize Perfect Dodge
When timed right, you can initiate a perfect dodge giving you brief invulnerability when you dodge away from the zombie's attack just before it connects.
Damage Legs To Cripple Zombie
You can also cripple zombies by damaging its legs. The zombies will still try to crawl towards you, but the speed of which is greatly reduced.
How To Confirm Kill On A Zombie
Use Your Knife To Poke Downed Zombies
You can check whether the dead body is actually dead, or a zombie waiting to pounce by stabbing it with a knife or shooting it. The attacked zombie, if it is still active, will get up and will try to attack you.
Try To Poke From Behind When Checking
There are some cases the zombie will try to pounce you if you are directly in front of them. Try to circle around to its back side and poke to avoid being ambushed.
Dealing With Nemesis Infested Zombie
When the Nemesis is present, the creature can infest nearby zombies to buff their lethality. This will greatly improve the zombie's reach and robustness.

Ranged Tentacle Attack
Although it cannot bite anymore, the infested zombie can try to attack you with a ranged tentacle attack. Be sure to keep your distance.
Head Becomes Hardened
When infested, the zombie's head becomes hardened and very difficult to damage. Aim for the torso and limbs instead.
Shoot Legs For Easy Pickings
Once you trip the zombie, you can pick them off with ease with a well placed blast from your shotgun.
