Subnautica 2 First Devlog

Subnautica 2’s Design Lead thanked players and previewed recent hotfixes plus upcoming additions such as performance boosts, creature behavior updates, expanded Biomods, emotes, proximity voice chat, and a new region with the Collector Leviathan.

The team also confirmed that all new content will be added without requiring players to restart their saves.

The third Early Access Hotfix addresses issues with the DLSS along with a number of different bug fixes. It also included changes to how some creatures behaved and their damage to players.

Hotfix 3 Patch Notes

Changes to the DLSS
- Fixed issues that could cause DLSS to crash the game.
- Fixed issues that could cause DLSS settings not to be saved correctly.
- Fixed Frame Generation not being available in certain versions of the game.
- Upgraded DLSS to version 4.5.
Changes to Creatures
- Hammerheads no longer attack unpiloted Tadpoles.
- Hammerheads can still take an interest in Tadpoles.
- Fixed Hammerheads occasionally not being attracted to Flares.
- Increased overall damage of Marrowbreaches.
Other Changes
- Reduced Interior Wall costs to 1/4 of their previous price.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a rare crash when starting games.
- Fixed Clients (not the game host) reverting to their previous position when rejoining a multiplayer session.
- Fixed Strike Armor modification stacking additively, which could result in a potentially game-breaking state.
- Fixed goggles remaining visible in first-person view when exiting the Tadpole Haul Chassis as a passenger.
- Localized text callout on the Terms of Service acceptance screen.
- Added additional context to crash reports to provide better details for hard-to-reproduce issues.

A Letter to the Community

Subnautica 2 A Letter to the Community

Following community comments regarding multiple aspects of gameplay, Unknown Worlds released an official letter to the Subnautica 2 community.

They stated they will make improvements especially around creature behavior and player mitigation tools. This includes creatures' aggression timing, aggro range, as well as their interactions with player vehicles and bases, in addition to the effectiveness of the Flare and Survival Tools.

Update Period

The development team announced they will be making updates in the coming weeks and that these changes will be made over a series of patches.

This second hotfix adds new resource locations, improves creature behavior, fixes several crashes and gameplay bugs, boosts performance, updates UI elements, and includes revisions to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Resource Changes
- Added more Silver resource areas in early game region.
Creature & AI Changes
- Adjusted Hammerhead behavior so they are no longer as attracted to Tadpole lights, preventing them from following players back to their bases.
- Hammerheads no longer attack unpiloted Tadpoles (from previous patch style, kept consistent if needed).
- Hammerheads can still take an interest in Tadpoles (optional carryover).
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where players could occasionally be teleported back to their base while exploring in a Tadpole.
- Fixed an infinite oxygen bug after a player died of hunger or thirst while piloting a Tadpole.
- Resolved a crash that could occur when losing connection from a multiplayer game.
- Fixed a crash that could occur randomly in the late game region.
Performance
- Improved performance when using Epic visual settings.
UI / UX
- Added callout to let players know that telemetry can be turned off at any time from settings.
- This callout is only available in English and will be translated in the next patch.

- Implemented changes to the Terms of Service.
Revised sections include: Preamble, Limited License, Gameplay Videos, Prohibited Uses, Ownership, Section Title, Player‑Submitted Content, Limitation of Liability, Transfer of Terms and Conditions.
- Implemented changes to the Privacy Policy.
- Revised sections include: Privacy Notice, What Information Do We Collect, How We Share Your Information, Security of Your Information.

Early Access Hotfix 1

Subnautica 2 Hotfix Image

The developers released the first official hotfix for Subnautica 2 to address several critical launch issues and community-reported startup problems following the Early Access release. This update is currently available on PC platforms and will release on Xbox after platform certification is completed.

Bug Fixes and Changes
Updated the crash-on-startup error pop-up for AMD graphics cards and DirectX 12 issues to provide clearer troubleshooting guidance
Fixed an infrequent crash related to the Ping feature
Enabled analytics only after accepting the Terms of Service
Reduced the amount of data being sent to backend services

The developers also confirmed that additional updates regarding the current Terms of Service and a dedicated FAQ addressing community concerns will be released in the near future.

Subnautica 2 is now officially available in Early Access, allowing players to explore a brand-new alien world filled with dangerous underwater ecosystems, mysterious creatures, and advanced survival technology. Players can tackle the adventure solo or team up with up to three friends through online co-op.

The developers emphasized in their community letter that the non-lethal survival approach only works if predator encounters feel fair and readable. Since current defensive mechanics still feel inconsistent, multiple balance patches are planned over the coming weeks.

The current roadmap highlights major system improvements planned for the EA 1.1 Quality of Life Update and the multiplayer-focused EA 1.2 Update. Future expansions are also expected to introduce new biomes, additional vehicles, expanded story chapters, and more exploration features.
