How to Check Coordinates in Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 How Coordinates Work

Pause the game (ESC) and look at the bottom right corner of your screen. Your current coordinates are displayed there as three values: X (Horizontal), Y (Elevation), and Z (Vertical) respectively.

How to Use Coordinates

Subnautica 2 Anita Databank Coordinates

Coordinates let you mark and return to any location in the game. This is useful for remembering resource spots, blackboxes, and other mission-related objects.

Axis Tracks Negative (-) Positive (+)
X (Leftmost) East - West Farther West Farther East
Y (Middle) Depth Deeper underwater Closer to the surface
Z (Rightmost) North - South Farther North Farther South

To navigate toward a saved location, check your current coordinates and move in the direction that brings each value closer to your target. Pause and check as much as you need to stay on course.

Subnautica 2 Compass

Compass directions and your distance from the Lifepod work alongside coordinates to help narrow things down. For example, a beacon listed as 172m southwest of the Lifepod paired with its coordinates gives you two ways to zero in on the same spot.

How to Use Beacons

Subnautica 2 Utility Beacon

One of the best uses of coordinates is marking important areas with Beacons. Beacons and Habitat Beacons can be crafted with the Habitat Builder and emit a signal that marks their position in the world. You can see these signals from any distance, making it easy to return to key locations.

  • Beacons can be placed anywhere. Use them to mark resource spots, Blackbox locations, or any point you want to revisit.
  • Habitat Beacons are placed inside bases and work like a permanent version of the Lifepod waypoint.

Once placed, you can track these places by configuring which ones you'd like to appear on your HUD by pressing Tab and hovering to the Signals section.
