The Great Jaw is a massive clam Leviathan that sits stationary on the seafloor. Unlike other Leviathans, it does not swim or chase you, but it will trap and poison you if you are not careful. Its interior holds some of the best early Lithium deposits in the game and the blueprint for the Portable Oxygen Generator.

Great Jaw Location

Subnautica 2 Great Jaw Leviathan Location

The Great Jaw is found in the Tufa Towers biome, approximately 350 meters southwest of the Lifepod, next to the Cicada Wreck (Canteen).

The easiest way to navigate there is to activate the Wander Blackbox signal in the Signals tab, follow the cliff south until you reach the spider-crab-shaped coral covering the Wander pit, then turn south over the cliff.

Survival Tips

Subnautica 2 Great Jaw Leviathan Closed

The Great Jaw's central pod is ringed with purple rope-like tendrils. Touching any of them triggers the clam to snap shut, trapping you inside while dealing poison damage. Here is how to handle this leviathan safely:

Move Slowly

The tendrils will trigger at the slightest contact so it's usually best to take off your Wakemaker if you're venturing inside the pod.

Watch Your Rear When Firing

The Sonic Resonator's recoil can push you backward through a tendril. Make sure the space behind you is clear before shooting.

Use the Air Bladder Immediately if Trapped

Activate it to rise quickly out of the clam's grasp before the poison kills you.

Wait for the Shell to Reopen
