Giant Ambush Predator

The Great Jaw is a massive clam Leviathan that sits stationary on the seafloor. It lies in wait for any creature who has the misfortune of entering its maw before it clamps down to trap them.

Triggers Activate the Clamp Down

Subnautica 2 Inside the Great Jaw Leviathan Central Pod

Inside its jaw, you will find bright purple tendrils which, when disturbed, will trigger the Great Jaw to shut its clam. It's entirely possible to venture in and explore inside the Great Jaw without disturbing it if you're careful enough.

Treasures Inside Its Jaws

Subnautica 2 Inside the Great Jaw

Its interior holds some of the best early Lithium deposits in the game and the blueprint for the Portable Oxygen Generator. Exploring the inside of the Great Jaw can be worth the risk.

Great Jaw Location

In the Tufa Towers Biome

Subnautica 2 Great Jaw Leviathan Location

The Great Jaw is found in the Tufa Towers biome, approximately 350 meters southwest of the Lifepod, next to the Cicada Wreck (Canteen).

Guide to Get There

The easiest way to get there is to follow the Wander Blackbox signal, go to the cliff south until you reach the spider-crab-shaped coral covering the Wander pit, then turn south over the cliff.

How to Scan the Great Jaw

Simply Scan Its Shell

Scanning the Great Jaw is fairly easy since it is stationary. It does let out an initial electric shock when you come near it, but you can survive this easily. Scan its shell without going inside it to do this safely.

Can You Kill the Great Jaw?

No Means to Kill Leviathans

There is no means in the current game to be able to defeat the Great Jaw or any other Leviathan for that matter. The Devs have previously stated that no weapons will be added to the game, making it impossible to kill them.
