What is Subnautica 2's Endgame?

The Alien Ruins

The Alien Ruins

The endgame begins once you cross the deep open water to the Alien Ruins the Karakorum region that sits beyond the chasm east of the starting area. This is where the final objectives of the current Early Access story take place, culminating in the Power Plant repair and the Axum Observatory.

Survive Against Leviathans

Survive Against Leviathans

The open water between the starting region and the Alien Ruins is patrolled by the Collector Leviathan. It will attack your Tadpole directly. Have the Scout Chassis installed before you attempt the crossing since speed is your main survival tool here, whether you bob up and down on the water's surface or travel near the seabed. A Repair Tool is also essential in case the vehicle takes hits on the way through.

Learn About the Other Leviathans

Learn About the Other Leviathans

The Alien Ruins and surrounding biomes introduce additional Leviathans you have not encountered yet. Knowing their patrol routes and aggression triggers before you wander into their territory makes the difference between a close call and a total loss.

Explore the Alien Ruins

Explore the Alien Ruins

The Alien Ruins is the largest and most complex area in the current build. It contains the Bioscanner, the Modification Station, the Feedback Resonator, and several key story triggers. Do not rush straight to the objectives. Scan everything you pass, because missing this area contains late game recipes that you will need later on.

Find New Tech

Find New Tech

The highest-tier tools in the current build are found in and around the Alien Ruins. The Bioscanner and Feedback Resonator are both here, and both are required for story progression. Scan the Modification Station fragment while you are in the area. You will need to build one at your base to craft vehicle upgrades.

Collect New Materials

Collect New Materials

Celestine, Creature Enamel, Conduit Crystals, Troilite, and Atacamite are the materials that gate most endgame crafting. Collect as much as you can during exploration runs.

Build a Base in the Alien Ruins

Build Base in Alien Ruins

Set up a base in the Karakorum region as early as you can. Every trip back to the starting zone means crossing the Chasm and the Collector Leviathan's patrol zone again. A forward base eliminates that entirely and keeps your crafting loop efficient for the final story objectives.

Best Base Locations

Place Down Necessary Structures & Systems

Place Down Necessary Structures & Systems

Prioritize a Fabricator, Battery Terminal, and Tadpole Dock first. This will cover your basic needs, such as crafting, tool recharging, and vehicle power. Once the Modification Station is unlocked, build one immediately.

Upgrade Your Tadpole

Upgrade Your Tadpole

The Alien Ruins and the Power Plant both require diving past 250 meters. The Depth Module Mk. 1 extends that limit to 450 meters and is the single most important upgrade before the final objectives. Fill your remaining module slots with Engine Efficiency and Strike Armor modules.

Upgrade Tools & Equipment

The endgame introduces upgraded versions of two tools you have been using since the beginning. Both are required to complete the story. Scan them as soon as you find them and build them before progressing further.

Modify Important Tools

Modify Important Tools

The Bioscanner replaces your Scanner and can analyze alien technology, enabling you to unlock more Biomods. The Feedback Resonator is the upgraded Sonic Resonator, with increased range and the ability to shatter Armored Bloom Cankers the kind the regular Resonator. Both are mandatory for the final Angel Comb sequence.

The Tadpole cannot reach every part of the Alien Ruins. Some sections such as the Metal Farms require swimming on foot, which makes some upgrades like the Improved Fins and the High Capacity Air Tank genuinely useful at this stage.

Complete the Current Story

Complete the Current Story

The current Early Access story ends at the Observatory. There are 3 major objectives that you need to finish in order.

Learn the Alien Language

Scan the Rosetta Stone at approximately 165 degrees from the Alien Ruins landmark before entering the Observatory. You will want the context it provides for the final pieces of the early access story.

Fix the Power Plant

Repairing the Power Plant turbine requires 10 Titanium Ingots, 10 Strontium, and 10 Mangalloy Ingots, totaling 60 Titanium, 20 Celestine, 10 Atacamite, and 10 Troilite in raw materials. Start collecting these resources well before you reach this objective.

Open the Observatory

With the Power Plant running, head to the Observatory. Interact with the terminal on the second floor, scan the Orrery, and exhaust all dialogue with the Architects. This closes the current story arc. Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access. More will follow in future updates.

Collect All Biomods

Collect All Biomods

Biomods are unlocked by scanning specific creatures with the Bioscanner and configuring them at a Biolab. By this stage, you should already have a few passive and active options equipped. The endgame biomes introduce new creatures that unlock additional Biomods not available in the starting region.

Prep for Next Updates

Once the Observatory sequence is complete, the current story is finished. Use this time to farm Troilite and Atacamite through the Metal Farm, stock food and medical supplies, and expand your Karakorum base. Future updates will add new biomes and objectives, so having your resource pipeline established means you can step into new content immediately rather than spending the first hour catching up.

Endgame Tips

Build Karakorum Base

Subnautica 2 Karakorum Base Rosetta and Angel Comb

The Power Plant and Observatory are both located deep in the Karakorum region. Every return trip from there to the starting base becomes very tedious afterward. A more effective way is to set up a forward base equipped with a Tadpole Dock, Fabricator, Processor, and other crafting facilities you might need.

Get the Feedback Resonator

Subnautica 2 Using Processor a Feedback Resonator to Get Celestine

The final Angel Comb sequence involves Armored Bloom Cankers that the standard Sonic Resonator cannot break. Your only answer to that is the Feedback Resonator. Build it before you attempt to clear the infection.

How to Get Feedback Resonator

Use Beacons on Conduit Crystals

Subnautica 2 Placing a Beacon on Top of a Conduit Crystal

Conduit Crystals are the only resource that respawn in the same place you find them, so the best way to gather them is to place a beacon on top of each node.

How to Get Conduit Crystals

Keep the Metal Farm Running

Subnautica 2 Metal Farm in Karakorum

Running around searching for Conduit Crystals, Troilites, and Atacamites can get tedious over time, so the most efficient solution is to rely on Metal Farming. Just make sure you have some Axum Bacterial Culture in your inventory before you start.
