Side Quest may not give you important items for every quest but it increases the Challenge Quest meter allowing you to get rewards like costumes.
Obtain EXP And Increase Your Level
While may not be the fastest way of increasing EXP, Side Quests are great source of EXP and must be done when you want to increase your level.
