If you are planning to grow, then all you need is the first seeds that you can purchase. The first price is 800 Galleons, but you can get a Mandrake every 10 min, so this is the best option. But when you have the Menu Screen open, the timer will not be counted, so explore around and kill time.

When you want to grow Mandrakes, then you will need pots. There are small, medium, and large pots, and Mandrakes can be grown in any of them. So you do not have to purchase a specific pot.

Mandrake is a tool item that you can use in combat. You can faint enemies in and you can attack when they do. Also you can inflict a little bit of damage.
2. Professor Garlick's Assignment
Mandrakes are needed to complete Professor Garlick's Assignment. You will learn "Wingardium Leviosa" in Assignment 1, and "Flipendo" in Assignment 2.
