How to Perform Action Commands

For normal attacks, press the A button with good timing

The Action Command for a normal attack succeeds if you press the A button with good timing. When an Action Command is successful, there are various benefits, such as increasing the damage dealt to the enemy.

Normal attacks become AoE attacks

If you perfectly time an Action Command for a great success, your normal attack can deal damage to all enemies. This is especially useful when facing many enemies.

Special moves also involve button mashing and stick controls

Special moves also involve button mashing and stick controls

Action Commands for special moves involve not only timing but also button mashing, holding buttons, and stick controls. Be sure to check the command when you learn a new move.

You can also block enemy attacks

When receiving an attack from an enemy, pressing the A button with good timing can reduce or nullify damage. However, be aware that the timing varies depending on the enemy and the move.

Some moves nullify Action Commands

Depending on the enemy's move, Action Commands may be nullified. Since you cannot reduce damage, proceed with battles while paying close attention to Mario and his friends' HP.

Initially, an "!" shows the timing

Initially, an ! shows the timing

For weapons or moves used for the first time, or attacks from enemies fought for the first time, an "!" will indicate the timing for a greatly successful action. This ! disappears after a certain period, so learn the timing while it's being shown.

Consecutive successes trigger a Chain

Successfully performing Action Commands consecutively triggers a Chain. This boosts Mario and his friends' stats, allowing you to proceed with battles more advantageously, so aim for consecutive successes.

Chain effects vary by character

The effects activated by a Chain are called Ally Bonuses, and these effects are determined by the characters in your party. Each character boosts different stats, so consider Chain effects when forming your party.

download-4 MallowMagic attack up

download-1 BowserDefense up
download-3 PeachMagic defense up

Chains can be carried over to the next battle

Chains do not reset to 0 after a battle ends and can be carried over to the next one. The higher the Chain count, the more powerful the effect, so it's recommended to build up Chains before facing tough enemies like bosses.

Successful commands raise the Triple Move gauge

Successfully performing Action Commands fills the gauge, and when the gauge is full, you can perform a Triple Move. These moves enable powerful attacks or defenses, making them recommended for boss battles or against strong enemies.
