Enter the Pipe on the Right

Kero Sewers

Proceed to the right and enter the pipe.

Obtain a Badge Effective for the Boss Battle

Whatchuneed

After exiting the pipe, head to the treasure chest in the back right. You'll face a tough enemy here, so restore your HP and FP before opening the chest. Open the chest and defeat Whatchuneed to get a Flower Set and the Trueform Pin, which is effective in the Belome battle.

Whatchuneed is Weak to Jump

Whatchuneed has very high HP and powerful attacks. It's weak to Jump and immune to Thunder, so Mallow's Thunderbolt won't work. It's recommended to have Mario as the attacker and Mallow as the healer.

Postpone if HP is Low

Fighting with low HP and FP is dangerous. If you have no means of recovery, proceed further, reach a save point, and then come back.

Return Up and Enter the Topmost Pipe

Kero Sewers

Jump from the stairs to return up, get the Flower from the chest in the back left, and enter the topmost pipe. Be careful as Rat Funk will appear from the indentations along the way. Make sure not to enter the pipe immediately after returning up.

Use the Star to Defeat Enemies

There's a Star in the treasure chest right after exiting the pipe. Defeat the surrounding enemies to level up. Boo is hard to defeat as it stays at the edge of the screen, so it's recommended to lure it near the center before taking the Star.

Enter the Pipe in the Back Left

Kero Sewers

After using the Star, enter the pipe in the back left.

Proceed Through the Narrow Passage

Kero Sewers

Once in the next area, proceed through the narrow passage where Rat Funks are. Three Rat Funks will appear; if you want to avoid battle, you can jump over them.

Enter the Pipe Below

Kero Sewers

In the next area, jump to enter the pipe below. If you're not good at jumping, climb the left wall to reach the pipe below.

Press the Switch

Kero Sewers

Press the switch at the top of the stairs to drain the water. Then, enter the pipe that appears to go back.

Go Down the Step and Enter the Pipe in the Back

Kero Sewers

When you return to the previous area, the water will be drained. Go down the step and enter the pipe in the back.

Heal and Save

Kero Sewers

The treasure chest contains a Mushroom that fully recovers HP/FP, and there's a save point nearby. A boss battle is coming up soon, so heal and save.

Reach the Upper Ledge

You can reach the upper ledge by bumping into a Boo, then fleeing from battle and riding the flashing Boo. The left treasure chest contains a Flower instead of the "Cricket Jam", but the chest will be restocked when you come from Land's End, so it's okay to open it here.

No Need to Enter the Right Pipe

No Need to Enter the Right Pipe

The right pipe leads to Land's End, but you can't proceed from this side. The enemies are also very strong, making it nearly impossible to win at this point, so don't enter and proceed.

Enter the Right Pipe and Approach the Enemy

Kero Sewers

Enter the pipe and approach the enemy in front of you to trigger a boss battle. They use status ailments, so equip Mario with the "Trueform Pin" obtained on the way, and Mallow with the "Fearless Pin" obtained in Mushroom Kingdom.

Belome Battle

Belome
  • Use badges to counter status ailments
  • Be careful about healing Mallow if he gets eaten
  • Thunderbolt is effective

Belome is weak to Thunder, so Mallow's Thunderbolt is effective. After a certain number of turns, Mallow will be swallowed, and you'll have to fight with just Mario for a while, so be careful.

Defeating the Boss Triggers a Minigame

Kero Sewers

Defeating the boss directly leads to the "Midas River" minigame, and you'll move to the next area, "Banks of the Midas River".

How to Get the Hidden Cricket Jam

Proceed to Land's End

To get the Cricket Jam, you first need to proceed to Land's End. You can't get it when you first visit Kero Sewers, so give up for now and move on.

Proceed Downwards from the Second Save Point

Proceed to the second save point in Land

Proceed to the second save point in Land's End, and instead of following the path up the steps, go right along the ground below.

Proceed to the End of the Next Area

Proceed to the end of the next area

In the next area, also follow the path to the end.

Jump When Smoke Comes Out of the Hole in the Rock

Jump towards the hole in the rock

There's a rock with a hole in it at the end. Jump into this hole. You can enter by jumping the moment smoke comes out of the hole.

Follow the Path Through the Cave

Follow the path through the cave

Once inside, follow the path. It's a bit intricate but it's a single path, so you won't get lost. There's a springboard at the end, so use it.

Arrive at Kero Sewers

Exiting the pipe, you'll arrive at Kero Sewers. The "Cricket Jam" is in the treasure chest across the platforms.

Be Careful Not to Fall Down

Be careful not to fall down before opening the treasure chest. If you do fall, don't rush to change areas; instead, return to the title screen from the system menu. Your autosave should be intact, so loading it will take you back to where you exited the pipe.
