Stay at the Suite in Marrymore After Clearing the Game

To rematch Jonathan, you need to clear the game to the ending once and then stay at the hotel suite in Marrymore.

Rematch at the Pirate Hideout in the Sunken Ship

After staying at the suite, you can rematch him at the pirate hideout in the deepest part of the Sunken Ship.

Jonathan Rematch Strategy and Countermeasures

Cannot Use Allies or Items

In the Jonathan rematch, you cannot use characters other than Mario or any items. Be aware that there are no healing methods.

Strengthen Durability with Equipment

By opting for an equipment setup that emphasizes durability, you can minimize the risk of losing due to failing action commands when taking damage. Let's start by preparing your equipment.

Lazy Shell (Armor)	- Can reduce elemental damage - Armor with the highest defense and magic defense
Crystal Charm	- Grants both attack and defense buffs

If Confident in Action Commands, Specialize in Attack

Equipping the Lazy Shell (Weapon) has the demerit of lowering attack power, so if you are confident in your action commands, equipping the Work Pants or Super Suit and specializing in attack is also an option.

Lazy Shell + Ghost Medal Not Recommended

The combination of Lazy Shell (Armor) and Ghost Medal lowers Mario's attack power too much, so it's better to choose equipment considering attack power to some extent.

Enhance Defense and Attack with Ally Bonuses

For ally bonuses, Geno and Bowser are recommended as they can enhance attack power for normal attacks and defense to counter Jonathan's troublesome 'Thrust' attack.

Remember the Defense Timing for 'Thrust'

Jonathan's 'Thrust' attack deals high damage, and failing the defense action command will result in taking massive damage. The action command timing is right after he spins his spear, so remember this.

Against Rematch Jonathan, special moves deal less damage, so focus on using normal attacks.
