Goomba Stomp Guide and Tips

  • No need to hold back on your score
  • Aim for consecutive stomps
  • Be careful, as Gold Goombas are fast
  • The strategy of waiting on one pipe also works

Aim for Consecutive Stomps

When you stomp a Goomba, Mario will jump high again, allowing you to stomp a second one with the same momentum just by adjusting your direction. Doing this can significantly reduce your time and greatly increase your score, so you should generally aim for these consecutive stomps.

Be Careful, as Gold Goombas are Fast

To get a high score, it's important to hit the Gold Goombas, which are worth 3 points. However, Gold Goombas retreat quickly, so the timing is tight. You need to go stomp them as soon as they appear.

Score Summary for Each Monster

MonsterScore
Gold Goomba+3 points
Regular Goomba+1 point
Spiny-1 point

The Strategy of Waiting on One Pipe Also Works

There's also a strategy where you stay on one pipe and only jump when a Goomba appears. Since Spinies retreat quickly, you often won't stomp them even if you jump by mistake. This method is heavily luck-based, and you'll need a fair bit of luck to aim for 20 points, so use it if the standard method isn't working for you.

No Need to Hold Back on your Score

No Need to Hold Back on your Score

In the original game, you received a reward each time you beat your high score by 2 points, so you had to hold back on your score to get lots of rewards. In this remake, it's a target score system, so that's no longer necessary.
