Best Party Compositions in Super Mario RPG. The guide introduces recommended party compositions for the early, mid, and late game, as well as strategies and combination points.

Table of Contents

Best Party Composition

A Well-Balanced, All-Purpose Party

Party Composition
MarioMarioGenoGenoPeachPeach
Triple Move
Grants a shield to the entire party that blocks any single attack once.
Composition Points
- Geno Boost's attack/defense increase is powerful
- Deals high damage and takes low damage
- Proficient against both single and multiple targets
- Since you take less damage, you can reduce healing

The best party in Mario RPG is the combination of Mario, Geno, and Peach. You can boost attack and defense with Geno, and fight stably with Peach's healing.

Also Effective with Item-Based Strategies

Geno Boost's attack increase also enhances damage dealt by items. This has the significant advantage of allowing Peach, who has modest attack power, to adopt an offensive strategy using fixed-damage items.

The Triple Move is a Bit Awkward to Use

The Triple Move grants a shield that blocks any single attack once to the entire party, but it's difficult to use as it needs to be timed with the enemy's dangerous attacks. When the Triple Move gauge is full, switch to a party with an offensive Triple Move, use it, and then switch back to this party.

Beware of Shredder

Be aware that although very few enemies use it, Shredder will remove Geno Boost. It's better to use a different party against enemies that use Shredder frequently.

Party for Exploiting Elemental Weaknesses

Party Composition
MarioMarioMallowMallowPeachPeach
Triple Move
Greatly heals the entire party, including reserves, and revives fallen allies.
Composition Points
- Can exploit Fire, Thunder, and Ice weaknesses
- Mallow's Psychopath reveals weaknesses
- Proficient against both single and multiple targets
- Both Peach and Mallow have healing abilities
- In a pinch, the Triple Move can be used for healing
- Be careful not to overuse FP

A party where Mario can attack with Fire, and Mallow with Thunder and Ice. It's especially recommended when fighting enemies weak to Thunder or Ice, as you can aim for massive damage with Mallow's special moves.

Abundant HP Recovery Options

Since Peach and Mallow have healing moves, you can fight with confidence even against enemies with high attack frequency. The Triple Move greatly heals and revives the entire party, including reserves, making it excellent for recovery when Bowser or Geno are defeated.

Consider Swapping Peach for Geno at the Start of Battle

Peach is primarily a healer, so she's often not needed at the start of a battle. It's recommended to start with Geno to boost Mario and Mallow, then swap in Peach after taking damage from the enemy.

Offense-Focused Party

Party Composition
MarioMarioGenoGenoBowserBowser
Triple Move
Boosts allies' power and attacks random enemies 5 times.
Composition Points
- Attack power greatly increases with Geno Boost and the Triple Move
- An offense-focused party that simply maximizes damage dealt
- Bowser's Fear infliction is also excellent
- Healing must be done with items
- Consider swapping Geno for Peach after buffs are applied

Since the buffs from Geno Boost and the Triple Move stack, you can deal extremely high damage. The basic flow is Geno Boost x3 → Triple Move, but if you plan to swap Geno out, just buffing Mario and Bowser is also fine.

Reliant on Items for Healing

This party has no special moves for HP recovery, making it completely dependent on items for healing. If you can defeat enemies quickly, you often won't need to heal, but if the battle drags on, it's recommended to swap Geno for Peach after using the Triple Move.

Inflicting Fear is Another Strength

While it's only effective against some bosses, Bowser's ability to inflict Fear on all enemies is also powerful. If you can successfully apply it, you'll increase damage dealt to enemies while reducing damage taken, significantly stabilizing the battle.

Recommended Parties from Early to Late Game

Recommended Early Game Party

Party Composition
MarioMarioMallowMallowGenoGeno
Triple Move
A powerful attack on a single enemy.
Composition Points
- In the early game, there are no other options, so this is a fixed party
- Offensively oriented, but well-balanced
- Buff with Geno + exploit weaknesses with Mallow
- Healing is done with Mallow + items
- The Triple Move is specialized for single targets

In the early game, you'll have Mario + Mallow for a long time, and even after Geno joins, it takes a while for the fourth member to arrive. This is basically a fixed party, but it's well-balanced and easy to fight with.

Buff with Geno and Exploit Weaknesses with Mallow

In boss battles, the strategy is to buff the party with Geno while using Mallow to discover the enemy's weakness. Against enemies weak to Thunder or Ice, you can aim for massive damage with Mallow's special moves, so prioritize buffing him with Geno.

Heal with Mallow + Items

Mallow has a healing move, but it can only heal a single target. Sometimes Mallow's healing alone won't be enough, so always keep an eye on your stock of healing items as you progress.

Recommended Mid-Game Party

Party Composition
MarioMarioGenoGenoBowserBowser
Triple Move
Boosts allies' power and attacks random enemies 5 times.
Composition Points
- Recommended for Booster Tower and beyond
- Bowser has high firepower and high durability
- His Fear infliction is also excellent
- Swap Geno <=> Mallow for enemies with elemental weaknesses
- Healing is done with Mallow + items

A recommended party after Bowser joins. Bowser is an excellent attacker with high firepower + an all-target Fear infliction, and you can get his Chomp weapon in Booster Tower, so put him in your party right away.

Swap the Remaining Slot as Needed

Remaining slot is basically Geno is recommended. However, be flexible and swap to Mallow for enemies weak to Thunder/Ice, those who use powerful attacks, or even mid-battle if your HP gets low.

Recommended Late Game Party

Party Composition
MarioMarioGenoGenoPeachPeach
Triple Move
Grants a shield to the entire party that blocks any single attack once.
Composition Points
- Geno Boost's attack/defense increase is powerful
- Deals high damage and takes low damage
- Proficient against both single and multiple targets
- Since you take less damage, you can reduce healing

The recommended party after Peach joins in Marrymore. It's extremely well-balanced and allows for stable battles against most enemies.

Mario + Peach is the Core

The indispensable Mario and the healer Peach will generally be fixed members, with the last slot being swapped based on the situation. Use Mallow for Thunder/Ice weaknesses, Bowser if physical attacks or Fear are effective, and Geno for everything else is the recommended composition.

Party Composition Tips

You Can Swap Members Mid-Battle

You Can Swap Members Mid-Battle

A change from the original, you can now swap party members even during battle. This makes it easier to adapt to enemy actions, so you should form your party with the beginning of the battle in mind.

Be Mindful of Enemy Weaknesses and Action Patterns

Be Mindful of Enemy Weaknesses and Action Patterns

Enemies have varying stats like defense and magic defense, as well as different resistances to elemental weaknesses and status effects. Exploiting weaknesses can make a battle much easier, so if you're stuck on an enemy, try reconsidering your party while keeping their weaknesses and action patterns in mind.

The Healer Peach is Practically a Must-Have

The Healer Peach is Practically a Must-Have

Peach can heal the entire party's HP and status effects simultaneously for a low FP cost. From the mid-game onwards, many enemies use powerful all-target attacks, and without Peach, you'll find it increasingly difficult to keep up with healing, making her an almost essential party member.

Consider the Effects of Triple Moves

Consider the Effects of Triple Moves

Triple Moves are a new feature in the remake. The available move changes depending on the combination of characters in your party, so be sure to consider the effects of Triple Moves when forming your party.
