Refinement Guide - How to Refine Tarot Whispers

This is a guide to the refinement system in Sword of Convallaria (SoC). Read on to learn the process of refining tarot whispers, as well as how to decide which tarots to refine!

What is Refinement?

Tarot Attribute Value Rerolls

Refinement is a comparatively new system that allows players to reroll their tarot's attributes.

Note!	Refinement only affects the stat values and not the stat itself. Meaning you cannot replace or remove an M.DEF attribute roll, but you can increase the amount of M.DEF granted by the attribute.

Requires Refinement Boxes

Refining tarots consumes Refinement Boxes, as well as Tarot Essence. So be sure to stock up since the refining process will eat up multiple Refinement Boxes.

How to Get Refinement Boxes

Purchase from Shop

Refinement Boxes can be purchased from the Shop by going to the Shop→ Exchange→ Reputation tab. Note that you're limited to 5 Refinement Boxes per shop refresh, and the boxes cost Prestige Crowns, a rarer currency than Proofs of Reputation.

Proof of Strength Rewards

The Refinement system was added in an update alongside the Proof of Strength content. So it makes sense that Refinement Boxes were added as Proof Rewards. Check out our Proof of Strength guide below to learn more!

Purchase with Astral Gems

You can purchase up to 5 Monthly Refinement Box Packs from the Pack Shop for 580 Astral Gems each. Purchasing all packs will cost you 2,900 Astral Gems monthly, which equates to a little over $50.

Refine Tarots with Special Attributes

All tarots can have a special fourth attribute, which grant either bonus effects, or enhance existing special effects. If you want to maximize the potency of your characters, only invest in tarots with special attributes.

Refine Tarots with Ideal Attributes

Arguably harder to obtain than special attributes are tarots with ideal attributes. Since SoC characters come with varying skills and abilities, ideal tarots vary depending on the character.

Pro Tip!	A good rule of thumb is to aim for percentage bonuses for P.ATK, M.ATK, and HP! While some characters also want P/M. DEF, they are comparatively few.

How to Refine Tarot Whispers

Check the First and Last Attributes

The best tarots will have an ideal first attribute. Depending on the character and the tarot, these stats are typically P.ATK, M.ATK, or HP.

Next and more importantly, the best tarots also have a special attribute. Ensure the last attribute is rainbow-colored before proceeding to the next step.

Look at Attributes Carefully

It's easy to mistake Uncommon Attributes for Legendary Attributes because of the similarity in color. This can often lead to wasted resources when the fourth attribute is misidentified as Legendary, which prevents the tarot from rolling a special attribute.

Advance Tarot to Lv. 50

Stopping at Lv.50 allows you to check on the final attributes of the tarot whisper. You want to aim for percentage (%) rolls over flat (+) rolls for the second and third attributes, and the special attribute in the fourth slot.

Advance Tarot to Lv.60

Once you're happy with your attributes, push the tarot to max level (60) in order to unlock Refinement. If you are not happy with your attributes, restart by selecting another tarot.

Refine Tarot Stat Rolls

Press on the Refinement button to consume Refinement Boxes and Tarot Essence to begin rerolling your attribute values.

Attributes are Rerolled Separately

Each attribute on the tarot will reroll exclusively from the other attributes. It's possible for one stat to go up while another goes down. It's also possible that multiple attributes are increased and multiple attributes are decreased. Making rerolling for attributes a costly process.
