Puppet Portalcraft with Card Substitutions

Free‑to‑play Portalcraft is essentially a budget Puppet Portalcraft list that keeps the original archetype’s core play pattern while using low‑cost substitutes. It’s inexpensive to craft, straightforward to pilot, and still somewhat decently powerful, which makes for an excellent practice deck for players who wanted to try out the Puppet game.

Free-To-Play Portalcraft Deck - How to Play

Build Your Field with Followers while Using Puppets for Board Control

In the early game, play low-cost Followers to build your field, and use the Puppets added to your hand to clear the opponent's field. If your followers survive on the field, it's your chance to try and reduce the enemy leader's life health.

An Early Zwei, Symphonic Heart is Powerful

Playing and evolving Zwei, Symphonic Heart as early as possible clears much of the opponent’s field while leaving you with a strong board. A 5/5 Zwei backed by two Wards forces your opponent to waste resources just to answer this threat and makes your next turn far easier to execute.

If Zwei Survives, Go on the Offensive

If Zwei survives, continue developing your board and push for an all‑out attack. Adding more followers and playing extra Puppets helps keep your board protected by Ward while maximizing damage output.

Draw and Control the Field in the Mid-Game

In midgame turns, use Lyria, Eudie, Sylvia, and Gran & Djeeta to dig for Orchis while spending leftover play points on followers to hold the board. Keep Puppets in hand so you can convert them into burst damage when Orchis arrives.

Try to Save Your Super-Evolution

Save your Super‑Evolution for Orchis whenever possible. Noah can handle small threats while conserving Evolution Points and the Puppets he generates can either boost Orchis’s damage or serve as removal, so play him when you have a clear opening.

Use Ilsa to Control the Field or Damage the Leader

Ilsa lets you choose a Mode for either clearing the field or dealing burn damage to the enemy leader. Because this card doesn’t require Evolution Points, use the mode that best fits the board state to stall or pressure until you can deploy Orchis.

Use Sylvia or Zwei for Removal in Emergencies

You'll want to save your Super-Evolution as much as possible, but if your opponent builds a strong board before you reach 8 Play Points, use Sylvia's or Zwei's Evolution/Super-Evolution to regain control. If you use a Super-Evolution for removal, playing Puppet Cat with your remaining Play Points will allow you to deal 12 damage with Orchis at 8 PP.

Attack with a Super-Evolved Orchis

In the late game, Super‑Evolve Orchis, Newfound Heart and attack the opposing leader with your Storm Puppets. By stockpiling Puppets, you can deal massive burst damage while being able to clear your opponent’s side of the board.

Play Puppets Alongside Orchis

Play the Puppets generated by Noah or Enhanced Puppets alongside Orchis to amplify her damage and removal potential.

Play Puppet Cat at 9 PP

At 9 PP, the usual play is to deploy Puppet Cat for a trade-off, then summon a 4‑attack Puppet into the freed slot to deal 12 damage to the enemy leader.

Play Beelzebub Against High-Durability Opponents

If the opponent is using a deck with a lot of healing, Orchis's damage over time will be less effective. In that case, play Beelzebub to increase the damage you're able to dish out. If you play Beelzebub and then Super-Evolve Orchis, you can add up to 5 extra damage, making it easier to get into your lethal range.

Mulligan Guide for the Free-To-Play Portalcraft

Keep Lovestruck Puppeteer, Eudie, and Zwei

Keep Lovestruck Puppeteer and Eudie, Maiden Reborn to secure an early board and set up follow‑up plays. Zwei, Symphonic Heart is a high‑priority keep as soon as you hit the evolution turn since it can turn the tide and retake the field, as well as force the opponent to to deal with 3 followers.

Keep Puppetry-related Cards Against Opponents Strong in the Early Game

Against Earth Rite Evolution Runecraft, Earth Rite Evolution Runecraft, and Earth Rite Evolution Runecraft, you should consider including low‑cost puppet generators; Lovestruck Puppeteer is the top priority here, but if you can't get this card, keep Puppet Lancer or Puppet Theater instead.

Keep Medical-Grade Assassin with Lovestruck Puppeteer or Puppet Theater

With a 2-cost Puppet creator
Medical-Grade AssassinMedical-Grade Assassin

If you keep a 2‑cost puppet generator, it would be wise to keep Medical‑Grade Assassin as well to enable a powerful turn‑3 move by using a Puppet with Bane to remove a stronger enemy follower.

Keep Orchis if Your Early Game is Stable

If it looks like your early game will be stable, keep Orchis as part of your hand. In matchups where you need to keep up the tempo, you should keep her if you see two low-cost cards or a low-cost card plus Zwei.

Against control‑oriented decks where early turns matter less, keep Orchis with another card you can use in the early game.
