On the Ocarina of Time dungeon map, blue areas indicate rooms you have visited, while uncolored areas indicate rooms you have not yet reached. The flashing marker shows your current location. Note that you cannot view the complete dungeon map until you obtain the Dungeon Map item.

On the minimap, the yellow triangle marker indicates your current location, while the red marker shows where you entered from. Checking the minimap as you move helps you track your position and avoid getting lost.

Unlock by Getting the Dungeon Map
In Ocarina of Time, you can view the full dungeon map by obtaining the Dungeon Map from a treasure chest. When exploring a dungeon, finding the Dungeon Map first makes it easier to navigate and keep track of your progress.
Mapping Is Possible From the Start
The Dungeon Map allows you to view unexplored areas, but even without obtaining it, rooms you have visited will still be revealed on the map. Therefore, by exploring the entire dungeon yourself, you can uncover the same areas shown by the Dungeon Map.
Villages and Fields Unlock Upon Entry
For field maps, clouds will clear when you visit a new area for the first time, revealing the location on the map. However, the field map only displays major areas, and some locations, such as Zora's River, will not appear.
