Blow up the boulder beyond Hyrule Castle's gate with a Bomb to access the Great Fairy Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby in front of the fountain to obtain Din's Fire, though you don't need to get it at this point.
Follow the River Upstream

Once you reach Zora's River, make your way upstream. Since you can't swim against the current, destroy boulders with Bombs and carry a Cucco to glide across wide gaps.
You Can Get Pieces of Heart Using a Cucco

Carrying a Cucco lets you access areas with Heart Pieces. Since you can't climb ledges while holding a Cucco, throw the Cucco onto the ledge first, then climb up and grab it.
Buy Magic Beans from the Man by the Fence

You can buy Magic Beans from the man standing by the fence in the lower part of Zora's River. They can be planted in certain spots and grow into platforms in the future, helping you obtain certain collectibles.
Play Zelda's Lullaby at the Waterfall

How to Get Inside Lord Jabu-Jabu
Talk to the Zora on the Second Floor

After arriving at Zora's Domain, follow the path to the second floor. There is a passage to the left of King Zora's chamber, so talk to the Zora inside.
Get the Silver Scale from the Diving Game

Talk to the Zora and play the Diving Game. The objective is to collect all the Rupees scattered underwater before time runs out. Speak to the Zora again afterwards to receive the Silver Scale.
Dive Where You See Bubbles

Bubbles rise to the surface wherever there's a Rupee, so look around for the bubbles and then dive to collect the Rupees.
Reach Lake Hylia through the Underwater Tunnel

With the Silver Scale, jump from the waterfall in Zora's Domain and swim through the underwater tunnel to reach Lake Hylia. The tunnel is too deep without the Silver Scale, so be sure to get it first.
Dive to Pick up the Empty Bottle

Once you arrive at Lake Hylia, dive down to pick up the Empty Bottle lying just beyond the underwater tunnel.
Show the Empty Bottle to King Zora

Return to Zora's Domain through the tunnel and show the Empty Bottle to King Zora. He will move aside and allow access to Zora's Fountain.
Catch a Fish in the Shallow Water

Before heading to Zora's Fountain, catch a Fish in the shallow waters of Zora's Domain. Fish can be found on the first floor, and you can catch one with an Empty Bottle.
Feed the Fish to Lord Jabu-Jabu

After catching a Fish, head to Zora's Fountain beyond King Zora. Release the Fish from the bottle in front of Lord Jabu-Jabu to get inside Lord Jabu-Jabu.

Use Slingshot or Deflect Projectiles to Defeat Enemies

Just after entering the Belly, an Octorok will appear. You can defeat it by deflecting projectiles with your shield. The Shaboms and Baris that appear along the way are flying enemies that can be difficult to hit with a sword, so we recommend taking them out with the Slingshot.
Talk to Princess Ruto then Follow Her

Open the door and follow the path to find Princess Ruto. A cutscene will play, causing Ruto to fall into a hole. Follow her and drop into the same hole. After reuniting with Ruto, speak to her twice to carry her.
Carry Princess Ruto through the Nearby Door
While carrying Princess Ruto, advance through the nearby door.
When Princess Ruto Returns to Her Room
If you leave Princess Ruto in another room or swim underwater while carrying her, she will return to the room before the fall. If you lose her, return to that room to find her.
Toss Princess Ruto Across the Gap

You'll reach a room with a large gap and a switch. Throw Princess Ruto across the gap, then jump into the water and activate the switch. The switch raises the water level. Swim across, pick up Ruto, and continue forward.
Hit the Ceiling Switch with the Slingshot

The passage ahead has a ceiling switch. Since you can't use tools while carrying Princess Ruto, set her down and shoot the switch with the Slingshot.
Princess Ruto Can Trigger Objects
You can trigger ceiling switches by throwing Princess Ruto at them. Well-aimed throws can also damage enemies, so use Ruto as a ranged attack when needed.
Defeat Enemies and Ride the Moving Platform

An Octorok awaits in the next room. Deflect its projectiles with your shield to defeat it. Once defeated, wait for the platform to descend, then hop onto it.
Continue Beyond Princess Ruto's Room

Once the platform reaches the top, follow the path back to the room where you met Ruto. Head toward the door on the far side, being careful not to fall into the holes.
Go Right and Press the Floor Switch

Go right past the door and press the floor switch you find there. Note that you need to be carrying Ruto to activate this switch.
Defeat the Enemies to Obtain the Boomerang

Stingers will appear just beyond the door in front of the switch. Defeat all enemies in this room to obtain the Boomerang.
Z-Target to Hit Stingers Easily

Stingers are flying enemies that are difficult to hit with a sword, so Z-target them and use the Slingshot instead.
Go Left and Place Princess Ruto on the Switch

After obtaining the Boomerang, take the left path and place Princess Ruto on the switch before proceeding. Ruto will remain here and will not return to her original room.
Defeat the Tentacles to Get the Dungeon Map
Tentacles will spawn in the room behind the door. Use Z-targeting and side-strafing to dodge their attacks while using the Boomerang to defeat them. Once defeated, open the chest that appears to obtain the Dungeon Map.
Enter the Next Room to Obtain the Compass

After obtaining the Dungeon Map, defeat the Shaboms in the next room within the time limit to obtain the Compass from the treasure chest.
Use Boomerang while Z-Targeting to Defeat Them

Getting too close to a Shabom will make it aggressive, so keep your distance and attack using the Boomerang and Z-targeting to quickly defeat the Shabom.

After defeating the blue tentacle, enter the room at the north center of the map and defeat the green tentacle.
Jump into the Hole Behind the Tentacles
After defeating the green tentacle, head south through the central passage to the room where Princess Ruto was. The tentacle blocking the hole will be gone, so carry Ruto and drop into the northwest hole.
Advance from the Bottom and Battle Big Octo
| Walkthrough Tips | |

| - Attack with the Boomerang to stop its movement - Once it starts spinning, attack it again - When it stops and shows its back, attack its weak point - Jump attacks deal damage efficiently |
Hit Big Octo with the Boomerang to make it spin, then attack it again while it is spinning. This sometimes causes it to stop and show its back, allowing you to land more attacks with your sword to deal damage.
How Big Octo Changes Direction
Big Octo changes direction when it bumps into Link. You will take damage, but attacking immediately after it changes direction lets you hit its weak point on its back.
Ride the Central Pedestal to the South after Battle

After defeating Big Octo, step onto the central pedestal to ride it to the upper floors. Once there, head south through the passage.
Attack the Moving Platforms to Proceed
The room at the end of the passage has moving platforms. Attacking a platform temporarily stops it, so attack them to stop their movement and proceed.
Jump to the Far Shore and Descend

Follow the path to a room with a gap. Jump across it to lower the platform, then descend.
Place the Northwest Crate on the East Switch
After descending, move the crate from the northwest onto the switch in the east passage. Once the switch is activated, open the door and continue.
Use the Boomerang to Hit the Switch
Climb the vines on the east side of the room, Z-target the ceiling switch, and trigger it with the Boomerang. Defeat the Baris first to make Z-targeting easier.
Battle Barinade in the North Room

| - Attack the ceiling tentacle with the Boomerang - Attack the main body to stop it while defeating the Baris - After defeating all Baris, attack the main body |
Entering the north room triggers the Barinade boss fight. Start by attacking the ceiling tentacle with the Boomerang. When it attacks with spinning Baris, hit the main body to stop it, then destroy the Baris. Once all Baris are defeated, attack the main body.
Obtain Zora's Sapphire after Warping

After defeating Barinade, pick up the Heart Container, then step into the warp point. You will obtain Zora's Sapphire (Spiritual Stone of Water) during the event after warping.
Until Obtaining the Master Sword

Return to Hyrule Castle and Watch Cutscene

After clearing Jabu-Jabu's Belly, return to Hyrule Castle. Approaching the castle gates will trigger a cutscene.
Get Farore’s Wind in the Great Fairy Fountain

| Zelda's Lullaby |
|---|
![]() |
Destroy the rock to the southeast of Zora's Fountain to access the Great Fairy's Fountain. Playing Zelda's Lullaby in front of the fountain will grant you Farore's Wind, though you do not need to obtain it at this point.
Pick up the Ocarina of Time in the Water

After the cutscene, the Ocarina of Time is dropped into the water in front of the castle, so dive in and pick it up.
Play the Song of Time at the Temple of Time

| Song of Time |
