Through the Sacred Forest Meadow

To reach the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time, you must pass through the Sacred Forest Meadow. The Hookshot is required to complete the dungeon, so first head to the Graveyard in Kakariko Village to obtain the Hookshot.

Exit the Temple of Time After the Cutscene

Exit the Temple of Time after the cutscene in Ocarina of Time

After pulling the Master Sword, there is a fairly long cutscene. When it ends, you will be in the Temple of Time as an adult — simply head outside.

Head out to Hyrule Field and make your way to Kakariko Village. Although the era has changed, the map itself is the same as when you were a child.

Enemies Can Now Spawn Inside Towns and Villages

Enemies now spawn in towns and villages in Ocarina of Time

As an adult, enemies will begin appearing even in places that were once peaceful, such as Hyrule Castle Town and Kokiri Forest. You don't need to defeat them, so feel free to run past.

Head to the Graveyard from Kakariko Village

Kakariko Village map in Ocarina of Time

Once you arrive at Kakariko Village, continue southeast to reach the Graveyard.

Pull the Leftmost Grave to Reveal a Hole

Once inside the Graveyard, pull the far-left grave in the left row from behind to reveal a hole. Drop into it to proceed.

Clear the Race Against the Ghost

Clear the race against the ghost

At the bottom of the hole there is a ghost — approach it to start the race. Chase after it carefully to avoid getting hit by the flames it throws. Clear the race and a chest will appear containing the new item, the Hookshot.

Play the Song of Time in Front of the Block

The passage beyond the race finish is blocked by a stone block but playing the Song of Time will allow you to pass through. Continuing onward will bring you to the tower in Kakariko Village.

Grab a Piece of Heart After Exiting the Grave

Piece of Heart in Ocarina of Time

You'll emerge on the second floor of the tower — use the spinning blades as platforms to reach the Piece of Heart. Don't miss it while you're here!

Learn the Song of Storms from the Nearby NPC

Song of Storms in Ocarina of Time

Take out your Ocarina in front of the NPC inside the tower to learn the Song of Storms. It is used later in the story, so make sure to learn it at this point.

Go to Kokiri Forest Through Hyrule Field

From Kakariko Village, head out to Hyrule Field and make your way to Kokiri Forest.

Head to the Lost Woods North of Kokiri Forest

Head to the End of the Sacred Forest Meadow

After making it through the Lost Woods, head to the deepest part of the Sacred Forest Meadow. The Moblins blocking the path can be defeated from behind with the Hookshot. Note that if they spot you, they will charge at you at high speed.

Dodge the Big Moblin's Shockwaves by Strafing

A Big Moblin awaits at the end of the long final straightaway, firing shockwaves at you. It attacks in an alternating left-right pattern, so keep moving side to side as you advance. You'll be able to defeat it later once you have the Bow, but for now, just slip past it and proceed to the back.

Learn the Minuet of Forest

Minuet of Forest in Ocarina of Time

Upon reaching the deepest part, a cutscene with Sheik will begin and you will learn the Minuet of Forest. The Minuet of Forest is a song that warps you to the Forest Temple whenever you play it.

Use the Hookshot to Enter the Forest Temple

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Hookshot Image

Once the cutscene ends, use the Hookshot to latch onto the tree branch at the entrance above your head and swing up. The Hookshot will connect as long as the red targeting reticle appears, so keep that in mind.

Up to Obtaining the Fairy Bow

Climb the Wall Vines and Get the Key

Ocarina of Time - Key Chest

Once you enter the Forest Temple, climb the vines on the wall to the right of the first room. Cross the tree above and open the treasure chest to get a Key.

Proceed to the Back Room

Ocarina of Time - Hookshot

After getting the Key, drop down and head deeper into the dungeon. A Skulltula in the corridor will try to block your way, but the Hookshot can defeat it in one hit regardless of which side you attack from. Keep this in mind since similar situations will come up again.

Head to the Room North of the Main Hall

Ocarina of Time - North Room

Continue forward and you'll reach the main hall. After watching the cutscene where Poes carry away the flames, head straight north.

Defeat Back Room Enemies for a Key

At the far end of the north room, you'll face the skeletal enemy "Stalfos." Deflect its attacks with your shield and then strike — repeat this pattern to defeat it. Its attack power is high, so fight with more caution than you have against previous enemies.

Extinguish the Flames on the Skulls Before Attacking

The flaming skull enemy "Bubble" along the way cannot be damaged unless its flames are extinguished first. Simply ramming it with your shield puts out the flames, so guard calmly without panicking.

Enter Northwest Room from the Main Hall

Ocarina of Time - Northwest Room

Head back to the main hall and enter the northwest room just to the right.

Blocks Can Be Removed with the Song of Time

Ocarina of Time - Block
Song of Time
Song of Time

The block at the entrance can be removed with the Song of Time, just like the one in the graveyard.

Climb the Vines on the Right Wall

Ocarina of Time - Vines

Once inside the room, go to the right wall and climb the vines. Be careful not to be spotted by the Skulltula midway as you aim for the next room near the center.

Drop Down When the Skulltula Turns Purple

Ocarina of Time - Purple Skulltula

If the Skulltula spots you, it turns purple and then charges at you. You can't dodge fast enough while climbing, so once you see it turn purple, press the A button and drop down immediately.

Defeat the Enemy and Obtain the Dungeon Map

Ocarina of Time - Dungeon Map Location

In the next room, there is one Bubble, so extinguish its flames with your shield and defeat it. After defeating it, you'll get the Dungeon Map from the treasure chest.

Use the Hookshot on the Left Platform

Ocarina of Time - Hookshot

When you reach the back room, defeat the enemy in front of you and then use the Hookshot to cross over. There's a target to aim at, so lock on to the target and launch yourself across.

Press the Switch and Enter the Well

Ocarina of Time - Well

Press the switch at your destination. The water drains from the well in the same room, so head to the well and proceed inside.

Get a Key Inside the Well

Ocarina of Time - Key in Well

Follow the waterway inside the well to reach the dead end, where a treasure chest contains a Key. Afterward, climb back up using the wall vines.

Exit and Return to the Main Hall

Ocarina of Time - Backtracking to Main Hall

After exiting the well, go through the door on your right to return to the main hall.

Head to the West Room and Climb Up

Ocarina of Time - Climb Up

Enter the west room of the main hall. There is a ladder straight ahead — climb it and keep heading up.

Push the Block in the Direction of the Arrow

Ocarina of Time - Pushing Block

As you proceed, you'll reach an area with a block and arrows on the floor. First, grab the block and move it in the direction the arrow indicates.

Climb the Ladder Where the Block Was

Ocarina of Time - Climb the Ladder

Climb the ladder where the block was previously. Note that it is somewhat obscured from vision, so move the camera to locate it.

Push Block in the Right Corridor to the End

Ocarina of Time - Moving Block

At the top of the ladder, push the block in the right corridor all the way to the back. Keep pushing until it won't move any further.

Circle Around and Push the First Block

Ocarina of Time - Pushing First Block

Go back and drop down, then loop around from the left side and push the first block to the back. Once it fits into the indentation, you can climb on top of it and move forward.

Push the Red Block to the End

Ocarina of Time - Red Block

As you continue, you'll encounter another red block — push it again and proceed. Once it fits into the indentation, climb on top and continue forward just like before.

Ignore Enemies and Keep Moving Forward

Ocarina of Time - Ignore Enemies

The path is mostly linear, so just keep heading deeper. Enemies along the way can be skipped, so it's generally fine to prioritize movement over fighting.

Defeat 3 Enemies in the Lowest Room

Defeating 3 enemies in the lowest room in Ocarina of Time

Proceeding past the staircase room triggers a battle with 3 Stalfos total. After you defeat the first one, 2 more spawn simultaneously. When fighting 2 at once, be aware that if you spend too long on one, the other you already defeated will revive — take them down quickly.

Fight Carefully to Avoid Falling into the Pit

Ocarina of Time - Pit

There is a large pit in the center of the room, and falling in means restarting from the room below. It seals up once the first enemy is defeated, so just be careful not to fall during the opening moments.

Obtain the Fairy Bow from the Treasure Chest

Ocarina of Time - Fairy Bow

Defeat all 3 enemies and a treasure chest appears containing the Fairy Bow. This is a ranged weapon similar to the Slingshot you could use as a child.

Up to Defeating All 4 Poes

Shoot the Painting with the Bow

Ocarina of Time - Beth's Painting

After getting the bow, proceed to the back room. Shoot all 3 portraits with Poes reflected in them to materialize the Poes. Getting too close causes them to vanish, so aim from as far away as possible.

Defeat the Poe on the Lowest Floor

How to Defeat the Poe
① Block its charge attack with your shield twice
② Attack with your sword once it materializes
③ Repeat the above pattern

When the blue Poe Beth appears, the battle takes place on the lowest floor. Similar to the flaming skull enemy, blocking with your shield makes it vulnerable to attacks, so don't attack recklessly — guard and approach carefully first.

Get the Compass from the Chest After Defeating It

Ocarina of Time - Compass

Defeating the Poe causes a treasure chest to appear containing the Compass.

Backtrack and Defeat the Poe on the Other Side

Ocarina of Time - Joelle

Pass back through the room where you got the bow and head to the room on the other side. Defeat the 2nd Poe, the red one named Joelle, using exactly the same method as before.

Get a Key from the Chest After Defeating It

Ocarina of Time - Key

A treasure chest also appears after defeating the 2nd Poe. It contains a Key needed to progress through the story, so make sure to pick it up.

Shoot the Eye Above the Twisted Corridor

Ocarina of Time - Twisted Corridor

Once you've returned to the twisted corridor, shoot the eye above the door with your bow. The eye gimmick switches the twisted corridor between its normal and twisted states.

Get Key in the Back Room and Drop into the Pit

Ocarina of Time - Boss Key

Pass through the corridor in its normal state and you can open a treasure chest on the ground to get the Boss Key. After getting the key, fall into the pit directly behind you.

Defeat the Enemies and Proceed

Ocarina of Time - Bubble

When you drop down, there will be a Bubble — defeat it and move on to the next room.

Enter Back Right Room from Right Corridor

Ocarina of Time - Floor Master Entrance

Take the right corridor carefully to avoid falling into the pit, and enter the room at the back right.

Defeat the Floor Master for a Key

Ocarina of Time - Floor Master
How to Defeat the Hand Enemy
① Block its charge attack with your shield
② Attack with your sword while it's stunned
③ When it splits, defeat all the small hands

There is one hand-like enemy called a Floor Master in the room — defeat it. Attacking it causes it to split into 3, but the split hands can be defeated in one hit.

Use Spin Attacks to Hit All Enemies

You can defeat all the split hands at once with a well-timed Spin Attack. The split hands will recombine into the large hand after a certain amount of time, so take them out quickly before they can regroup.

Reach the Top Floor Through the Right Door

Ocarina of Time - Block Room

Exit and go through the door on the right to enter the block room. The blocks are still in their moved positions, so use them to climb up to the top floor.

Twist the Corridor by Shooting the Eye

Ocarina of Time - Twist the Corridor

When you reach the room with the eye gimmick, shoot the eye to twist the corridor again. Once done, proceed through the twisted corridor.

Enter From Above the Defeated Poe's Room

Ocarina of Time - Direction

Pass through the room where you got the bow and proceed from the room where you defeated the first Poe into a new room. Take the corridor on the right side to head into the room further in.

Shoot the Eye with a Fire Arrow

The eye gimmick in the back room is frozen, so you need to fire an arrow along a trajectory that passes through the flames to shoot the eye. However, if you have learned Din's Fire, you can melt the ice from below.

Turn Back and Fall into the Pit in the Room

Ocarina of Time - Pit

After shooting the eye, return to the twisted corridor and fall into the pit on the floor of the next room.

Use Switch to Avoid Ceiling and Proceed

Ocarina of Time - Falling Ceiling Room

In the room you land in, advance without being crushed by the pitted ceiling. Triggering the switch at the far right lets you wait out the ceiling once, then you can dash straight to the goal door. Be careful not to touch the Skulltulas along the way.

Shoot the Poe's Portrait

Ocarina of Time - Amy's Portrait

In the next room, you'll face the 3rd Poe. First, shoot the portrait on the wall — but note that a timed puzzle follows, so save anywhere if you want to be able to retry easily.

Position the Blocks to Recreate the Portrait

Ocarina of Time - Block Puzzle

A puzzle begins where you must arrange the falling blocks to match the image in the portrait. There's a 1-minute time limit, so operate quickly and efficiently. Failing extends the time limit but changes the position of the image, so it's best to restart.

Defeat the 3rd Poe

Ocarina of Time - Amy

Clear the puzzle and the green Poe Amy will appear. Just like the 1st and 2nd Poes, block with your shield to materialize it and then strike it down.

Return to the Main Hall

Ocarina of Time - Main Hall

You can return to the main hall through the opened door. You'll emerge on the 2nd floor, so drop down.

Defeat the Poe in the Center

How to Defeat the Poe
Shoot the spinning main body with your bow

Approach the final Poe Meg in the center to trigger the battle. The way to tell the real one from the decoys is that the one that spins around once is the real one. Lock on with ZL, repeatedly shooting it with your bow will defeat it.

Up to Defeating the Boss

Take the Elevator Down

Ocarina of Time - Elevator

An elevator has appeared in the center of the main hall — ride it down.

Push the Protruding Wall Counterclockwise

Ocarina of Time - Push Wall 1

Push the protruding walls on either side counterclockwise once. The hole in the wall moves, allowing access to small rooms — repeat this to press each switch.

Access Northwestern Switch

Ocarina of Time - Northwestern Switch

Pushing the wall once should move the opening to allow access to the small, northwestern room. Head inside and step on the first switch.

Push Counter Clockwise Again

Ocarina of Time - Pushing Wall 2

After pressing the first switch, exit the small room and push the wall in a counter clockwise direction a second time.

Access Eastern Switch

Ocarina of Time - Eastern Room

Pushing the wall a second time reveals access to the Eastern room containing the second switch. Head inside and trigger the second switch.

Push Counter Clockwise a Third Time

Ocarina of Time - Southwestern Room

After pressing the second switch, push the wall counter clockwise a third time. This should open up the southwestern room. This room has a chest with 5 Arrows guarded by a Skulltula. This room also contains a Gold Skulltula on one of the walls.

Push Counter Clockwise the Last Time

Ocarina of Time - South Switch

Once you're finished in the southwestern room, exit and push the wall counter clockwise for the fourth and final time. This should align the north and south openings. First, access the third switch in the southern room before entering the boss room to the north.

Enter Room and Try to Leave to Fight the Boss

Ocarina of Time - Phantom Ganon
Boss Guide
・For the first phase, shoot with the bow as it comes out of the painting
└There are 2, but the real one is brighter in color
・Standing directly in front of the painting, the lightning won't hit you
・In the second phase, deflect the enemy's projectiles back with your sword

In the Boss room, trying to leave through the entrance will lock you in and trigger the Boss fight. In the first phase, deal damage by shooting with the bow as it exits the painting. The second phase is a rhythm game where you bat the enemy's projectiles back — mastering the timing is key.

Pick Up the Heart Container and Warp

Ocarina of Time - Warp Point

After defeating the Boss, pick up the Heart Container as usual. Then step into the blue warp point.

Receive the Forest Medallion in the Cutscene

Ocarina of Time - Forest Medallion

After warping, a cutscene plays and the Sage of the Forest Temple gives you the Forest Medallion. After the conversation, you regain control at the location where the Great Deku Tree stood in Kokiri Forest.

You Can Now Return to the Past at the Temple of Time

You can now return to childhood at the Temple of Time in Ocarina of Time

Clearing the Forest Temple allows you to return to your childhood at the Temple of Time in Hyrule Castle Town. There's no story-driven reason to go back right now, but it's a good opportunity to take a break and tackle optional side content.

Phantom Ganon Boss Guide

Phantom Ganon

Boss Movements

MovementEffect
Electric ShockLightning bolt that spreads in 6 different directions from its landing point
ElectroshockFires a projectile that can be deflected back with the Sword

How to Defeat and Tips

Phantom Ganon will use the paintings to get the drop on you during fight. With strong attacks, he can easily take out Link if you don't position yourself well and anticipate his attacks.

Phase 1: Shoot As He Emerges From Painting

In the fight's first phase, Phantom Ganon can only be damaged when he emerges from one of the paintings in the room. Look out for a purple portal as this signals where he will appear.

The Real One is Brighter in Color

The Real One Is Brighter in Color

Phantom Ganon will try to trick you with an imposter in one of the paintings. Know which is the real one by how much brighter his coloring is. To make it easier, look for the one with the brighter sheen to his armor!

Sound of Hooves in Real One (Earphones Recommended)

Another one of the tells to the real one is that it has the sounds of a horse's hooves. On the Switch's speaker, it can be hard to know where exactly is coming from so it's better to use an earphone here.

Phase 1: Stay in Front of Painting

Phase 1: Stay in Front of Painting

The electric attack spreads from the center of the room towards all of its corners. This makes it so that by standing in front of one of the painting, you are safe from the attack. You give up one, but it lets you safely focus on the other five paintings, so it's highly recommended.

Phase 2: Deflect Energy Ball

In Phase 2, focus on deflecting the Phantom Ganon's energy ball back at him with your sword. When you are a bit far from him, he will deflect it back so you will need to deflect it again. Don't let your guard down after deflecting it once.

Attack When He is Down

Once the energy ball hits him, Phantom Ganon will be knocked down. Take this chance to move close and slash him with your sword.

Guard to Get Through When He Is Up Close

When CloseWhen Far
When Close
When Far

When Phantom Ganon is at close range, deflecting the ball will just send it flying past him to the side. Since attempting to deflect it puts you at risk of getting hit, guard and wait it out until he moves away.
